NASCAR Penalties Announced
Lucama, North Carolina ( 06-26-2007) — Southern National Raceway Park is proud to be a NASCAR sanctioned racetrack participating in The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Saturday June 23, 2007 during the running of the Kinston Automotive NASCAR Late Model Stock portion of the Summer Sizzler 290, Stephen Rhodes of Raleigh and Jamey Caudill of Four Oaks, were involved in two separate yet related incidents.
As a NASCAR sanctioned racetrack, this matter was turned over to Lynn Carroll, Director of The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly racing, and Jerry Cook, Competition Administrator. After speaking with both drivers and eyewitnesses, the following penalties were issued by NASCAR. Jamey Caudill was in violation of NASCAR rule Section 12-4-A: Actions detrimental to stock car racing. Section 9-3: The driver assumes responsibility for the actions of his team members. The penalty is a $500.00 fine and suspended from NASCAR until fine is paid. He is also placed on probation until August 29, 2007. Stephen Rhodes was in violation of NASCAR rule Section 12-4-A: Actions detrimental to stock car racing. Failure to follow directives from track officials. Reckless driving. Section 9-3: The driver assumes responsibility for the actions of his team members. The penalty is a $1, 500.00 fine and indefinite suspension from NASCAR.
Southern National Raceway Park is saddened and disappointed by the actions of these two highly respected drivers. Their reputations have always been held in the highest regard by the track and the officials.
Southern National Raceway Park will continue to promote top level NASCAR short track racing in a fan-friendly family environment.
NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing continues Saturday night with the ATV night at the races 310. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. while the racing begins at 7:00 p.m.
