In 60 years of NASCAR racing, the sport has been filled with colorful characters. This year, Sporting News decided to craft a list of the sport's 60 Most Beautiful People.

The selections were made as a result of nominations sent in by readers and NASCAR fans to the Sporting News' publications and Web sites.

The list was finalized and published in a special edition, which is now available on newsstands and at the online store at streetandsmiths.com. SceneDaily is running the list, with one person from the top 60 to be featured each day.

Today's installment features No. 60, Teresa Earnhardt.

Following the death of her husband, Dale, Teresa Earnhardt assumed the leadership of Dale Earnhardt Inc., the NASCAR enterprise the couple was building in anticipation of the day he stopped driving.

With the move, Teresa became one of the most powerful women in racing.

Controversy sparked in 2007 when Teresa and her stepson, Dale Jr., couldn't agree to terms of a new contract, which led to NASCAR's most popular driver leaving DEI for Hendrick Motorsports. However, DEI has succeeded despite Junior's departure, fielding four full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams, including cars for drivers Martin Truex Jr. and Mark Martin. The team has since announced a merger with Chip Ganassi Racing, to take effect in 2009.

Earnhardt, who was born in Hickory, N.C., was married to Dale Sr. for 17 years before his death. She is also the stepmother of Kerry Earnhardt (a former NASCAR Nationwide Series driver who now works as a consultant for DEI) and JR Motorsports president Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, who's No. 56 on this list.

"succeeded" yah, ok, right. Who researched this article?

Today's installment features No. 59, Denny Hamlin.

Denny Hamlin is taking the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series by storm. As a young driver, Hamlin has made the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup for the third season in a row and he raced his first full campaign only three years ago.

But this should come as no surprise, as Hamlin has made his presence known in racing circles for years. Beginning with go-karts, Hamlin climbed the ranks, winning the WKA Manufacturers Cup at 15 years of age, and later moving on to mini-stocks at 16.

However, it was in 2004, when Hamlin was racing late-model stock cars, that Joe Gibbs Racing signed him to its driver-development program. Two years later, he's tearing up the Chase.

Like many NASCAR drivers, Hamlin uses his celebrity status for good. The Denny Hamlin Foundation raises awareness and funding for cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disease that affects the lungs, liver and other organs.
