It was reported in todays paper, Walt Disney Studios is planning a movie based on the four genrations of the Petty Family. Iis planned to begin with Lee Petty, to Richard and Maurice, then Kyle and Adam.

Unfortunately, the lead of Richard Petty is scheduled to be played by Dennis Quaid, who, IMO, has the wrong credentials to play this role.
First Quaid has no idea how to speak with a southern dialect as he so aptly demonstrated in the movie, "The Big Easy".
GEESH !!!!!! I can do "southern speak" better than he can and my stuff stinks. Of course in "The Big Easy", he was in close proximity to Ellen Barkin and that sexy lady might make any strong man stutter or fail the "southern speak" discipline.

Maybe, since it is Walt Disney Studios, and they have made so many childrens movies, they might figure no one will pay any attention to Dennis Quaid portraying Richard Petty. There might be other issues as well. Like the question, is Dennis Quaid really that good an actor to play "The King"??

Suggestions anyone ?? Anyone ?? Suggestions ?? Anyone ???? :bounce:

I don't think so, 97. This has been in the works for some time now.

Whizzer, I'll need some time to think about this. Dennis Quaid is a fair actor (The Big Easy is one of my favorite movies, btw) but portraying Richard Petty, I'm not quite sure how that will work.

While I am proud of your search prowess, bowtie, both you and 97 need to read the first line of Whizzer's thread.
It begins like this:

Well the newspaper is a little late with the story then isn't it????? <_< ;)

It seems that the movie has been changed a bit from what Whizzer posted. The article that bowtie gave a link for stated that Dennis Quaid would play Lee Petty, not Richard Petty.

Whizzer, if you could, what newspaper were you reading the article from today? (Post a link if it is online. I would like to read it.)

I can see it now:

Ben Affleck as Richard Petty, Matt Damon as Kyle Petty and Tony Danza as Crew Chief Steven Lane with Jerry Bruckheimer as Director.
