moving pets

has anyone moved their pets cross country? we'll be moving from Massachusetts to Illinois which is approximately a 16 hour drive. that won't be a problem for our westie but the 6 cats are a different story <g>
 
Plenty of pet carriers, food, water, rest stops, and maybe even an overnight at a motel. I moved my pets from Mass to Georgia in '94 and it was OK, but 6 kittys?
 
hmm, ice and a proper refreshment might make the trip more tolerable.

never intended to have 6 kat. they just kept adopting us! think 4 of the 6 are somewhat psychotic. nobody but us would keep them. and probably spend more on meds for one of them (epilectic) than we do for ourselves. should have gotten that pet insurance that was being pushed by our vet when he was little.

we're still in the early stage of moving so got a while to figure a way. we saw one place on the web that gave a quick estimate of over $3,500 to move just the cats. passed on that <g> we're seriously considering hiring 2 people and a large rental van to transport them. then flying the drivers back to mass. i think driving straight through will be easier on them.
 
Where in Ill are you moving to? I'm almost tempted to do it for you but constructions is picking up now:(
