I'm moving to Georgia next month. Just bought my tickets for the Southern 500 at Darlington. Depending on work schedule I plan on hitting Atlanta, Charlotte, Daytona, and Bristol as well over the next two years.

For those of you familiar with those tracks what are your favorite races? I really want to go to the All-Star race at Charlotte and while I'm not too keen on plate racing you have to go to the Daytona 500 at least once.

So far I've been to Texas 8 times, Kansas 3, Phoenix, Indy, Homestead. Texas was best race weekend because of the atmosphere in the tent campgrounds, Phoenix was the best viewing experience. Indy was cool to go to once but you can't see most of the track.

For Darlington I booked an outside tent site and am going to ride my bike up. I also have a travel trailer and am looking at taking that to Daytona and Charlotte.

Sounds like a great plan to me, enjoy! :)

AMS 30 mins south of Atl.
Dega is just 2 hours west.
Road Atlanta 45 minutes north of Atlanta for IMSA.
Commerce 1 1/2 hrs. north of Atl. for NHRA
Welcome to the Peach State when you get here.
Gooooo DAWGS sic em !

Savannah area. Gonna check out Oglethorpe speedpark.
Nice dirt track. Been there several times. No walls on the back straight or turns.
Just roll over the berm. Tear less stuff up.

Might be worth a trip to go to Myrtle Beach.

Oglethorpe is good stuff. My National Guard unit when to Ft. Stewart several times over the years. We had a couple of chances to get there. Like Hotrod said, that berm makes for easy return to the track after an unplanned exit.

Back around '00, we watched a guy's hood come up half a lap into an 8-lap heat. He drove the rest with his head out the window and finished in the last advancement spot 'cause no one else wanted to be anywhere near him. :)

Daytona, Darlington, and Atlanta are about 3 to 3.5 hours. Charlotte and Talladega are about 5. Bristol is about 6.5

Myrtle Beach is about 4.5. Check their web site for their big season closer the weekend before Thanksgiving. It's 3 full days. We sat there one Saturday and watched over 150 cars qualify, and about 35 trucks. Adding a few days at the beach is also a great way to extend the Darlington weekend.

If you are going to do the Daytona 500 and like short tracks, I suggest you find some place where you can stay a week and take in all the short track racing during speedweeks, either at New Smyrna or Volusia County Speedway.
