CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A former employee of Richard Childress Racing says in a wrongful termination lawsuit that the team used illegal engine modifications at this year’s Daytona 500 events, including in the car of polesitter Jeff Burton.

When Childress was told of the problem, the owner responded by saying: “All teams do something to enhance performance,” according to the lawsuit, filed by Anthony Corrente and reported Thursday on the Charlotte Observer’s Web site.

In a statement issued Thursday night, Childress said the allegations in the lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Mecklenberg County Superior Court, are “absolutely untrue.”

Smells like BS to me...

Well I would say Childress should fire the guy like you wanted Speed to fire Dilner but he's already done that... :D

It could be sour grapes or it could be the truth. Maybe RCR did want to know JGR secrets. I just hope all of this isn't swept under the rug.

Yeah, because we all know that there is nothing between Ray and Erin... ;)

It doesn't seem to be affecting Kasey Kahne's performance as Mayfield alleged. It does not seem to be affecting Elliot Sadler's performance.

Playing Devil's Advocate here: On the SPEED issue - He hasn't confirmed his story but is it possible that somebody gave him this information and was told by NASCAR to take a different position.

This other story though about this ex-employee smells like bull**** straight up. Then again it is possible, but not probable. I just don't think an "illegal engine" would pass tech.

I've just gotta say teams hiring members from other teams to get secrets and stuff ... that wouldn't surprise me. It happens in Wall Street - just typical business.

The engines passed inspection and thats good enough for me. almost sounds like the ex-employee might be making acusations similar to the recent rim acusation, after all he sure could use the money, from whoever, to make these claims. unemployment don't pay very much.
besides that what does any of this have to do with his lawsuit?
:beerbang: :beerbang: :beerbang:

I think this is what happened.....

One night, after doing a lot of drugs, Jr snuck into the garage. He secretly replaced the restrictor plates on the engines the night before the Daytona 500. Using the mouth of his bong, he made the openings to the plates wider, thus giving an advantage to RCR. During this time, Anthony Corrente walked in. He said, "Hey Jr, lets do a line of coke off the manifold and then break into the Goodyear trailor. Then we can find all the wheels that will go to the RCR team this year and use my pocket laser-cutter to cut them down a bit. No one will suspect anything!!!" (Insert evil laugh here)

FWIW, Corrente has not filed for unemployment benefits. I guess he was able to put a few bucks back or his wife has a good job.

ROFL...yep that is what happened...no doubt about it.

I read an interesting report today from our local papers about this and other incidents. One of the things that today's teams must worry about is just this very thing. I'm not going to say this particular incident is true and Jeff Burton is adamant that it's all predicated on a lie, but when teams begin to change personnel, secrets are going to be told. You can chock it all up to disgruntled employees, but if they have proof of some sort, you have to listen.

NASCAR has in the past, confiscated various parts that have been legal and told the teams not to use them. This is something that the teams all have talked about and even ol' Jack in the Hat has said that some things might be let out of the camps that have him worried, not that any of his teams have cheated.
