Doesn't anyone else multitask here and have two or more browsers open with different boards? I've always got the General Chit-Chat board and the General NASCAR Chat boards open when I'm here. Just wondering as it seems that I've never seen anyone on both boards as the same time. I guess I'm just a multi personality type of guy. :cookoo:

I've done that......but when I'm using Windows ME, I can't (the damned thing crashes)! I sometimes do it with Mandrake Linux but I haven't mastered much yet with that operation system............working on it though!!:)

Cripes almighty, Windows ME. What a piece of crap. Get rid of it and just use LINUX if you must, but get rid of ME! :)

i don't trust my computer to try that.. it freaks out when i check my e-mail and come on here at the same time

I like ME...........never have any problems with mine.......guess I am lucky..:)

I'll have one window open here, and another window open for surfing. LOL

That's about as multi-tasking as I get. :)

The king of the multi-taskers would have to be Fiver. hehehe

I kinda like Windows ME too. I hated XP.

But then, our home computer is down again, so maybe it's time to reload 98...

I run windows ME and don't have problems. I do enought multitasking at work that it's nice to concentrate on one thing at a time at home.

ME's strong point is multimedia and games........not multitasking.:D

Hmmmm, I didn't know that it had any strong points! :) I had thought about upgrading when it came out, but waited to see if there were bugs. By that time, I was told that Win 98 is faster and there were a lot of problems with ME. Of all the newer OS's out there, I would prefer to have Win 2000 and may yet load that on this computer. However, I know that my next computer will have XP on it and I'll have to see how things work out with that. The Mrs has XP on her laptop and it doesn't seem to have any problems, but I've already disabled many of the interactive things on XP.

My ME has never given me a problem...but remember, Intel may be inside here, but there is still an Idiot on the keyboard.
I often have up to 10 open windows with NO problem!

I guess it's all in what you do. I still use Win 98 first edition and with that, I use IE 6.0 which is supposed to be nothing but trouble, but I don't have any. :) I don't think that multitasking is supposed to be a problems with ME. They've just said that it is a bit more unstable than 98 and crashes more often. Microsoft has come out and publically appologized for ME, but what will that get you. It's like anything else, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)

Buckster, I get ME upgrades for free and have never had a problem that I haven't caused myself!

How long are those upgrades going to be around. I had heard that after the first of the year, support for 98 won't be available, so just today, I did my windows update. I found a different looking site, but it still did the upgrading. I guess 98 has been around for about 6 years now. Gosh, I remember when I didn't have room on my computer even for Windows 3.0 or 3.1. I finally got a bigger hard drive and a copy of 3.1 and loaded it. It was hard to give up the old DOS commands, but I did. Still remember those commands and now and then, I still do some of them. That was way back when I had a PB 386 SX 20 megahertz machine with a 40 megabyte hard drive. Ah, it brings back old memories. :)

Having many windows open at the same time such as browsing the internet and following links is not multitasking. It uses up resources but not that much. Multitasking is something like printing a spreadsheet, typing up a manuscript with a word processor and surfing the internet all at the same time. Most Windows based home computer are based on the Windows 95 platform with XP being the exception. Win 95 was rather poor at multitasking but it was the best out at the time. Win 2000 and NT are commercial OS's (they use a different file system) and they do do a better job. Win ME was supposed to be better than Win 98 but it was buggy from the start.....it was just pushing the limit of the Win 95 platform and it failed to do what it was advertised to do. It's not a bad system as long as you stay within it's limits. Cutie's computer hardly ever crashes and she has ME........I crash almost daily sometimes. But one major difference between the two: she has 256 megs RAM and I have 512 megs........I'm at the limits of ME's ability (512 megs is the max the OS can handle). Microsoft tried to sell ME as an all around computer for business as well as for home.......it's a great home OS but because of the problems with multitasking and stability it was not good for business. As a matter of fact, the OS is noted as probably the best multimedia and gaming platform out by Microsoft........that includes XP.

I'm not overly upset with ME........I know it's limitations (and I know why I crash so much). I'm probably going to move to Linux (Mandrake 9.0) for most of my stuff like internet and email, graphics and tinkering around.......but I will keep ME for the games and multimedia. I'm staying away from XP simply because I don't want Microsoft looking over my shoulder all the time.

Buck........when you say you are multitasking are simply having two browser windows open to two different pages? I can do that.:)

Oh sure, I do that, but I'm also doing a few other things as well. Sometimes I've got Grokster going at the same time along with my musicmatch jukebox. Funny thing about the jukebox, when I've got that going, it cuts the connection to my HP printer. That's easily remedied, but that's probably a problem that I have to face. Main problem there is I might be using the Jukebox and the Mrs. might want to print something. She's networked with me through wireless. I'm pretty limited as to what I multitask, but having many windows open at the same time is one of them. :) BTW, this the version of Musicmatch Jukebox that I have, I'm supposed to be able to burn CD's while multitasking. I've done it before, but it sometimes corrupts the new CD. BTW, I'm trying to retrieve my instructions on how to disable all that intrusive crap from XP. When I get it, I will give it to you.

Yeah, I've heard of all the stuff you can do to disable XP's constant checking in with MS.........but you loose most of what you gain by upgrading to XP in the first place. Thanks, but no thanks.:D
