MWR to make announcement on July 7th? UPDATE 3: Live on Speed On Friday Rowdy.com visited Michael Waltrip Racing [Cornelius, NC] which offers an amazing tour of the facility, including the fabricating shop. Even more interesting than the tour itself was this tidbit...someone in our group was asking how Ryan and Martin Truex Jr. (brothers) were related. Somehow this led to our tour guide telling us that Michael Waltrip Racing would be making a MAJOR announcement on July 7th.(Rowdy.com)(6-27-2009)
UPDATE: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing President Steve Lauletta said no matter what happens with Martin Truex Jr., he expects Bass Pro Shops will remain with the organization for 2010. Truex, who drives for EGR, is expected to be announced as the 2010 full-time replacement for Michael Waltrip at Michael Waltrip Racing on July 7.(SceneDaily)(6-28-2009)
UPDATE 2: Martin Truex Jr. will be named on Tuesday the newest addition to Michael Waltrip Racing, multiple sources confirmed on Saturday at Daytona. A press conference including sponsor NAPA is scheduled for noon at the team's Cornelius, N.C., shop. Truex is in the final year of his contract with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. NAPA, the long-time sponsor of team owner Michael Waltrip, will be become his primary sponsor. Waltrip will move from a full-time to part-time schedule that will include the Daytona 500 in February. He could remain in his familiar #55 with Truex taking another number, possibly the #56.(ESPN.com)(7-5-2009)
UPDATE 3: Tuesday’s Michael Waltrip Racing and NAPA Auto Parts press announcement will be televised live on SPEED and streamed on SPEEDtv.com starting at 12:30 p.m. ET. At that press conference, MWR is expected to announce that Martin Truex Jr. will drive the #55 NAPA Toyota next season, as team co-owner Michael Waltrip will focus on management responsibilities.(SPEEDtv PR)(7-7-2009)

I'm surprised. I thought Speed was carrying the Michael Jackson Memorial service at that time.

You mean there's something on other than Michael Jackson?

Confirmed: Waltrip's running a limited schedule in 2010.

Did the NAPA President dude just use "Michael Waltrip" and "talent" in the same sentence?

He did win the Daytona 500 twice.

Well Derrick Cope won the 500 just as many times as Dale Sr. So I don't think you can use 1 race or 1 track to determing the talent of a driver. With the restrictor plates anybody could win at Daytona or Dega.

Jamie McMurray, Derrike Cope, John Andretti, Ward Burton and Jimmy Spencer have also won at Daytona.

Oh, and don't forget Brian Vickers won at Talladega.;)

(I'm not knocking on anyone since I like John Andretti, Jimmy Spencer and Ward Burton, just saying.)

Earnhadt Sr had plenty of chances to win the 500 before the plates were put in use at the Super Speedways in 1987. He didn't become dominate at the track until after the plates were in use. Even then he only had one 500 win. Yeah, the plate races involve a lot of chance, but you also need some level of talent to position yourself towards the end of the race to win.

Michael Waltrip was never an A-list driver, but he's not a "no-talent" driver either. What he lacks in on-track skills he makes up for in his business and marketing skills.

Kind of the opposite of Shrub. He has some of the best raw talent in the garage. But Kyle could rescue puppies from a burning building, cure breast cancer, and disarm North Korea and he still wouldn't be likeable.

I'm surprised M&M's have stuck with him this long. He certainly doesn't have a "sweet" personality. :D

He is pretty close to being a "no talent driver" His average finish in the points is 23.5. over 24 years. With that you have to put him close to the bottom rung of the talent ladder. You are right about him being good at marketing his last name to stay in the sport for this long and suck as bad as he does.

Well guess what,.....the guy replacing him is 24th in the points

I'm not really a fan of Truex......remember the Montoya, Harvick incident at Watkins Glen ..........all started because Truex ran into the corner way to hard pushing Montoya into Harvick.......who then took exception to the wrong guy........Oh, and where did Truex finish?

I agree somewhat. With Waltrip being 33rd in points you can only put a couple of drivers in that car that won't do better. I do think Truex will do a little better. I think the eqiupment will be better than he has now.

He's already running a limited number of laps so why the heck not? Isn't he usually in the fence around the halfway mark? :D
He might race for a start and park team since it's no different than what he does. Except right now, he starts, crashes then parks.:D

This really wasn't much of a surprise, obviously. I heard Mikey put on a nice little party for people visiting his shop today, though.

Good for Mikey. I hope his teams continue to get better. I have seen lower realm teams get hot for a little while, then just fade out of business,, like the Valvoline Johnny Benson team of a couple of years ago. Michael is persistant, I give the goofy something that much. I thought he bit of too much when he started MWR, good luck in the future.

lol..too funny:D

LOL ... That's the truth.

LOL ... That's the truth.

Not to pull us off topic, but if Shrub had a personality more like his older brother does with Penske, he could easily be more popular then Junior.

Junior gets a lot of the fans largely because of who his father was, and people expect him to be the second-coming of Senior. Kind of the same way people looked at Kyle Petty.

It's not easy living in the shadow of greatness because you're always judged against it.

I like Kyle's pompous, arrogant personality. I like it that he says things that are on his mind and don't care if it pisses the fans off. NASCAR needs more of it.

It gets boring when every driver just sits around and kisses NASCAR's butt all day. Before Kyle came around and put on the black hat, everyone hated Smoke. Hell, I've got a YouTube video of him bashing the general manager of Las Vegas. All you've got to do is read through some of the comments to see what people think of him then and now.

I was standing in turn 3 when Kyle Busch became the most hated driver in NASCAR.:D The only reason everyone hates him is because he's winning and he ain't an Earnhardt.

Kind of like someone else I know. I won't mention any names. LOL:D

Pot meet Kettle :D

Personality, you mean the guy that got punched in the nose by Spencer. And the same guy that told the cop...."Do you know who I am"....come on now, shrub will never be as popular as jr. Jr's popularity is from much more than being the son of Sr. His personality and frankness is what makes him likeable, not to mention that he does have talent.

Shrub, unless he goes through a complete personality change, will never com close to Gordon and Jr.
