We lost my dad last night. He was 54. Hopefully he is enjoying watching Dale Sr race again. Probably won't be posting much for the next week

So sorry for your loss.

Thank you everyone. He died doing what he loved working as a truck driver. He had been off the road for a few years because of health reasons. And had worked incredibly hard to be able get back on the road, which he did back in June. We are still waiting for official results of the autopsy, but it looks like he had a heart attack. The police found him sitting in the cab of his truck. It sounds like he went very quickly. I'm just having a hard time since in my life I've been fortunate to not experience death close to me. I'm 25 years old, the last major death in my family was my grandfather when I was 4.

The hardest part was I had to go tell my grandmother her son was gone. Waking someone up in the middle of the night to tell them that isn't something I would wish on my worst enemy.

Hang in there, kid. Be with family and loved ones. Mourn and heal. Celebrate your father's life.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm thinking about you dude. Im not really the praying type but I've said one for you and your family. Hang tough.

My condolences, kkfan. My dad died at the same age and in the same way, from a heart attack. It was his third one. Whether you've previously experienced the death of someone close to you or not, nothing can ever really prepare you for it. :(

Just try your best to remember that you're not alone, and hang in there as best you can, buddy.

Absolutely. You can prepare for the death of a loved one but you can never prepare for how it will affect you.
