You might have seen some shots of Rhode Island on the news. One river is expected to crest at 20+ feet later today, flood stage is 9 feet. 8.5 inches of rain in 48 hours.

All the roads leading in and out are flooded and/or washed away. 2 dams near her either let go or were topped. The water is 3 feet deep in her place. Lost everything except her cat, car and some clothes. :(

sorry to hear that sst55. :( hope everything eventually works out for her. :)

I've been seeing that on the news. Too bad, hope everything comes out ok and the rain stops.

I thought we've been getting a lot of rain.

I've been watching on our local news all the flooding in RI., so sorry to hear it is that bad for your daughter. Hope things work out!

SST, I'm sorry to hear the bad news. I hope everything works out ,The water sucks,it's a mess down here, bridges out in three directions, a normal 10 minute,5 mile trip to Westerly now takes 1 hour and 20 miles. You know the saying,"Can't get there from here"
Good luck to your Daughter, and try not to stress.

SST, that is just terrible. I've been through a flood before and I know how bad it is. I hope the best for her. I'm sure the Red Cross, FEMA and others will be very busy for a long time with this.

We should all take this opportunity to address this matter at home ... how much do we stand to lose in case of disaster at home. Some things are easily replaceable or repairable. Furnishing and such. but somethings like antique family photos are beyond irreplaceable. I've scanned most of our old family photos and documents into the computer, and the originals are kept wrapped in brown paper in watertight bags inside a fireproof chest. From the specs on the chest, that should be enough to protect them against the worst possible fire in this house. Unless the gas main twists enough to blowtorch it, the house could be a total loss and I'd still have the kids youngest photos. I do need to buy another chest, tho. Lots of more recent photos to be preserved too. It's hard to address that the kids in today's photos will soon only be a distant memory.

Why not put them in a safe deposit box.

Every year we go thru the house with the camcorder, film everything. Open every closet, every drawer. Wifes jewelery, my tools. Tape goes over to my BIL's, he does the same and I keep his tape.

One of the hardest things to do is tell a homeowner that's had a major fire there's no coverage for memories.
