I take this boat anchor in tomorrow and have some files transferred to the new one --- along with the info for printer, games, scanner, etc.

Then I get to set up installation for satellite ! !

good luck..hope it doesn't crash (you did get XP and not vista, right?)

MH, you bet I got XP. The only files I really have to transfer are a bunch of pics I want to save.

When I get it all set up, maybe I can tell you what I have. LOL

My local guru hand built the new one for me. I do know that it has dual core and 2 gigs of memory --- whatever that is. LOL

I'm even getting a wireless mouse! Now that is something new for me. :)

You computer whizzes may have to walk me through stuff for a while. I'll be happy if I can turn it on and connect to the 'net. I don't bother trying to read the manuals because they are written by engineers who assume you know what the hell they are talking about.

Oh boy!

Trl I did that one time and my printer nor my scanner would work with XP or the new computer...I had to get new ones.. I wish you better luck.
Betsy;)

We just got a new computer. It came with Vista and was going to cost more to have XP loaded. Ended up having to buy a new printer as there isn't going to be a Vista driver for my old one.
But it is also a fax machine and scanner so all is not lost.
The good thing is my Linksys wireless router works on the new computer where it wouldn't on the old one, Win98SE. So now I can roam around with the laptop. I had been using the laptop instead of the PC anyway.
So now I need to buy some wireless ethernet adaptors for the Tivos to get them off the phone lines and on the router for their downloads and I should be set for a while.

When I got my new computer I had to buy a new printer too. I could have bought a cable that would have connected it but it was almost as much as a new printer/scanner/copier.

I have a Xerox WorkCentre color printer/copier. I'm sure hoping it works with the new computer because it is a superb printer.

And the color copies are breath-taking.

we have a newish HP PSC and even it gets moody with XP. its on my dads computer using the hp software, i prefer to let windows control everything, not special apps.

Yeah but often times drivers for peripheals work better using their mfg driver and not the generic Windows driver. Also, the mfg will do driver upgrades. So I prefer the mfg drivers over the Windows drivers whenever possible. Also, it is the driver conflicts that caused so many blue screens in the past. Esp. your monitor driver, which was responsible for over half of all blue screens.
I haven't had a blue screen on this new PC, yet. But, then I don't have a lot hooked up to it.
