I just learned that my oldest brother, Jimmy, has just learned that he has stage 4 cancer of the throat and esophagus. It has spread to several lymph nodes. They are going to remove his esophagus and most of his throat. He is 67 years old. He has a wife of about 40 years or so, three kids and 5 grand kids.

They aren't giving him much of a chance even with the surgery, but he is one tough dude, so you just never know. He survived as a Marine in Vietnam, and several street fights over the years since. I suppose it mostly depends on how much he wants to fight it and I can't talk to him to find out how much he wants to fight it as he is in Tennessee and he can't really speak any more anyway. Which, is why he finally went to the doctor, because it was getting harder and harder for him to speak. He's been pretty soft spoken as long as I can remember. After the surgery, they say he will be able to eat since they are attaching his stomach to what will be left of his throat, but he will be unable to speak without an electronic voice box deal.

So sorry to hear about your brother bene. My thoughts and prayers are with him and your family. Stay strong.

Tough news. I'm sorry to hear it. Thoughts and prayers

Sorry to hear about your brother. My dad had throat cancer, also, and was really pissed off when he was no longer able to speak. Do what you can to spend time with him.
Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

I am really sorry. You both are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks everyone. This makes my third brother who has had cancer. Ken had to have a kidney removed a few years ago, but he's fine now. Donny is currently doing chemo for some type of blood cancer that I can't remember the name of right now and, now, Jimmy. That just leaves Denny and I. My oldest sister had breast cancer as well, but she has beaten it so far. The other three sisters have avoided it so far. It's kind of strange that neither of my parents got cancer, but that many of the nine kids have gotten it already. I'm sure we aren't done. It's just a nasty disease. Gollum, who used to frequent this place years ago, knew Jimmy and used to work with him at Goodyear down there in Union City, I believe.

Sorry man, will be keeping you and your family in my thoughts. Hopefully everything works out ok.

will add him to prayer list.

Sad news. I can empathize as my father was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer a little over a year ago. Please accept my thoughts and sympathies.
