""NASCAR questions Mayfield's urgency to get back to track: NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Jeremy Mayfield's absence from the track Friday called into question the argument his attorneys used in requesting a preliminary injunction on NASCAR's drug suspension. Here's what Poston said: "Jeremy and his legal team asked for a preliminary injunction for emergency relief because it was necessary apparently to come and compete here in Daytona. Apparently he’s not here and it appears as if he’s not going to compete this weekend which would raise some questions on how much of an emergency it really was."(Orlando Sentinel)(7-3-2009)""

Ok, I'm not a lawyer and haven't stayed at Holiday Inn lately. But he's a racer, only way he can make some bucks is to race, the injunction came too late for him to get his equipment down to Daytona, he went there and hoped to get a ride but it appears Na$car has poisoned the well so to speak.
Anyone else see this as a back handed comment?

Yes it's backhanded but wht is he suppose to say, "Glad Jeremy won and our decision was overturned come on down and we'll give you a spot." This really has become the nightmare that will never go away.

If it was me and I had all the equiptment. It would have been loaded up and sitting at a truckstop just outside Daytona waiting for the judges ruling.

That is what I was thinking exactly, wouldn't you prepare for the possibility that you might be able to race? Seems to me he has no equipment, no team, and no one working for him and who in their right mind would want to at this point anyway?

Jeremy hadn't paid the five thousand dollar entry fee in time and why would he? Since the case was still in court with no determination, Jeremy was screwed. NASCAR could have rejected his entry fee based on the situation being in litigation or Mayfield could have paid the entry fee and faced the possibility of losing it. Sounds to me like the racing team is already in dire financial straits and every dollar counts.

NASCAR could, like Exxon or Ford Motor Company with the Pinto gas tank litigation, could drag this out until Jeremy can no longer afford to fight it.

That is, unless his attorney continues gratis.
