Well here is my attempt at a thread on the 2009 silly season for NASCAR. Remember, this is a rough draft. Expect frequent updates to this page due to the fast and ever changing scenarios coming out of NASCAR almost daily. There are a lot of cars, teams, and drivers, it wont be as easy as IndyCar.I will be listing the full-time teams and drivers first and then the part-time teams and drivers next. The last thing listed will be the unknowns in reference to drivers, cars, and teams.
If you see a question mark, it means it is an unknown, nothing definite.

Tont Stewart had Office Depot for a sponsor, I wonder if this will affect him

Office Depot Inc. will shutter almost one in 10 North American stores and slash 2,200 jobs as it seeks to stem red ink.
None of the store closings will be in South Florida.

It's not known how many, if any, of the job cuts are local. However, the plan's estimated $270 million-$300 million price tag includes severance for employees at its new Boca Raton headquarters, as well as stores.

"We are making adjustments in our global workforce, including both corporate and field, as business needs dictate," said spokesman Brian Levine in a prepared statement Wednesday.

The 2,200 job cuts represent just 4.5 percent of Office Depot's global workforce. But they come at a time when major retailers, including Office Depot, have traditionally bulked up staff to handle a seasonal surge in sales. Anemic holiday sales, though, have given few retailers much comfort. Indeed, news of job cuts is increasingly common: In November alone, Florida companies announced 2,034 layoffs. In the first eight days of December, 641 layoff notices were reported to the state.

Earnhardt-Ganassi: Truex and BPS leave the team if he does not have two full-time teammates. As of right now, Truex only has one with the #41 car whoever it will be. I suspect Almirolia will end up taking that ride.

Remember, Juan Pablo Montoya DOES NOT have full-time sponsorship (I think The US Border Patrol should sponsor Montoya's car:D).

I think we all should just wait and see who climbs into which car at Daytona.

That might help for that race or even a race or two or more, but they've been having "silly season" all year long lately. I get so confused during some races since they've been switching drivers all though the seasons. It seems with the exception of the "big guns" you just never know who is going to be in what car.

It was even more confusing at The Glen since they bring in the "road course ringers" and I couldn't figure out who half of them were! I guess I should have had a cheat sheet made up before the race!

Yorkie, you have made me realize that big time racing is beginning to look just like the local scene where you will find the big names and then there are those who show up now and then.

I do believe that all of this is only emporary and there will be an end sooner or later. We might just get back to the old days. Well no, it'll never be like the old days or not even the no so old days. We'll just have to ride it out like we have everything else.

Well think about it- every organization as made a change. hendrick plucked mark, rousch is re-arranging crew cheifs....again, ganna and DEI merge, evernham and petty look to merge (maybe evernham sell his portion to petty and/or BV), penske lost newman, gibbs lost tony, wood bros cutting back, Furn. Row cutting back, RCR adding a team, waltrip lost a team but runs the 47 operation, red bull did a musical chairs, ect.

nobody is safe. period, end of story.

If Bobby Labonte joins DEI/ Ganassi, that's going to be a good team.

I read where Robby Gordon might end up connected with Toyota .
