Do any of you guys remember this round of the Winston cup.It was a great weekend of racing and very new to us.By memory ,Neil Bonnet was the winner and 3 or 4 Ozzies ran in the event also_One of these was a bloke by the name of Robin Best.He really caught the Nascar bug and apparently sold up everything he owned down in Tasmania,( Marcos Ambrose country)and went in search of a full time drive in the States.Does anyone know which team (s) he eventually drove for and how did he perform. This would have been late 1988 early 89.Allan Grice & Dick Johnson also ran cars from Australia in preparation for the event.
Unfortunately for Bob Jane & us fans ,this was the only time Nascar ventured out here. The $30,000 000 dollar venue is hardly used now and I am told has grass growing up through the bitumen surface.
The curtain raiser for the 500 race was the Auscar 200 which ran 1984/7 Commodores with 5 ltr Holden V8 s in them.A bit tame compared with the cup cars ,but all a good learning curve.
One wonders with the v8 Supercars going over your way(Texas), MAYBE,Nascar might come back our way soon.

np..... That was one of I think a seven part series. They should all be available from that link if you switch over to view on YouTube's website.

I remember watching the event. I found it fascinating! And the Aussie fans loved it too!

I will watch the youtube links soon. Thanks for posting them/it, DP!

I never saw that one, not sure how I missed it.

The track looked like an old Charlotte.
