So last night I get an e-mail from one of the producers of NBCSN's NASCAR America. They are doing this series on the show now, short segments, call 50 States in 50 Days (or something like that). And tonight's segment will be on my home track Potomac Speedway.

So aside from the big Junior news, y'all need to tune in.

So, I'm curious where they are going in Hawaii. Since I'm pretty sure the only track in the state is a drag strip

Have to guess my old hometown track, Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa will be shown. Unless they stoop to featuring Iowa Speedway in Newton.

Newton Iowa isn't a local track, hosts big time NASCAR and IndyCar.
I was looking at the NBC sports site the other day and they have these clips on there, I think they did Knoxville for Iowa

found the video. maybe it's just me, but very disappointed.

The NBC video is titled "NASCAR America Home Tracks"

Nascar sanctions local tracks under the banner "Home Tracks" on their web page.

And the NBC story mentions two tracks:
1. Knoxville: not sure it has ever hosted race affiliated with nascar
2. Hawkeye Downs: maybe early 2000's had a nascar sanctioned race?

I would like to think NASCAR's promotion would be more effective by featuring venues actually associated with the brand.

Andy: I understand that, but...

iowa does have a NASCAR home track:

they have been nascar affiliated since the early 80's, and hosted numerous nascar sanctioned touring events back when nascar actually supported dirt racing:

NASCAR Busch/O'Reilly All-Star Tour

I know things have changed as far as nascar support of short track racing. eastern iowa has dropped the banner and gone to IMCA.

but back in the good old days (my youth, before you were born!), the eastern iowa/western illinois vs. the western iowa/eastern Nebraska racers, competing for nascar money, provided great rivalries and interest in local/regional racing.

responsible for the growth of nascar? probably not. television dollars weren't involved back then. but it did spur interest/pride at the local level due to the nascar affiliation.

last call and an old fart opinion: the NBC/NASCAR home town tracks feature should have highlighted a track with some actual nascar affiliation and history. unless there were no tracks available.

I actually think it's better that they're covering tracks outside the NASCAR umbrella. Actuall home tracks that don't pay mony to the corporate NASCAR machine.
