Biffle's girlfriend faces a reprimand: #16-Greg Biffle's girlfriend faces a reprimand from NASCAR about her pit-road confrontation with #2-Kurt Busch's fiance after the two drivers wrecked at Texas Motor Speedway. Busch hit the back of Biffle's car early in Sunday's race, causing an accident that ended Biffle's day. Biffle, the defending race winner, had led 49 of the first 82 laps before the crash and wound up 42nd. Moments after the wreck, TV cameras caught girlfriend Nicole Lunders slamming a water bottle on Biffle's pit box. She then marched down pit road and climbed halfway up Busch's box and had a heated exchange with Eva Bryan. The brief confrontation created a buzz in NASCAR, and the sanctioning body wants to cool down the emotions. "There will be some conversations that will be had with the people that participated, and we'll make sure that this doesn't carry on and into the garage or anywhere else," Robin Pemberton, vice president of competition, said Wednesday. "You've got to remember, most everybody in the garage area is friends, and those two girls in particular have a close relationship. Tempers flare, and we'll look at that and we'll make sure it doesn't carry on any further than that." NASCAR does not have a steadfast rule against team members entering other pit boxes, but generally frowns upon it if the reason for approaching the area stems from something that happened in race. "When altercations and things like that happen, we recommend that you stay in your own area," Pemberton said. "You can go have a conversation, but it can't be heated per se." Family members are typically given entrance to the track on a "license" that recognizes them as a team member, meaning their actions can be policed by NASCAR and the sanctioning body reserves the right to revoke their pass at any time.(Associated Press)(4-12-2006)

Based on what is in red they have no authority to reprimand her so I guess they will be writing the rules as they go again!!!!

This is truly one of the most ridiculous things I've seen NASCAR do. The obvious inconsitencies in their "rule book" and how they apply it towards certain drivers is one (bad) thing, but to reprimand someone's family? Wow, this sport went from having things like a "gentleman's agreement" to scolding wives. What's next, a special "time out trailer" for when the drivers' children fight?

What are you talking about? NASCAR and sanctioning bodies have ALWAYS maintained control in the pits. A wife, husband, brother, mother father etc. etc. is considered part of the crew and are given passes as such. "Average Joe" spectator can't be on pit road during a race wandering up and down pit road, so what they (family & friends) get is a privlege, certainly not a God given right.
"IF" NASCAR doesn't step in and put their foot down and make an example to maintain control, they would be absolute idiots. What is it that offends you that they are going to repremand someone for not following "their" rules (be it written or just understood) for competitors? It isn't like they're threatening to not let the team participate, or even threaten to but Biffle on probation. Although as he signs for passes for his family and friends he DOES agree that "HE" is responsible for their actions. This is nothing new, my uncle had to do it in the 50's & 60's when he raced, I did it in the 70's & 80's when I raced and it doesn't matter if it is a big track or a small track, NASCAR, IRL, USAC, or BF Egypt motorsports racing league.
Humpy is correct, it is nothing new the BIG difference is these anal media always trying to make huge issues out of ordinary occurances. It actually happened MORE "Back in the Day" but it wasn't put on the national evening news, and those family members were repremanded too.

Based on what is in red they have no authority to reprimand her so I guess they will be writing the rules as they go again!!!!
Come on now Wolf, I've read lots of your stuff and know you have far better reasoning powers than that.
Let me ask a question, ARE ALL the rules for raising children written down in a rule book? How do parents know what to enforce and what not? Are you telling me in life in general there aren't MANY things we have to do to fit into society that even though it may not be written down people are expected to conform too?
IMO that's one of the problems with society latley, people refuse to take responsibility for their actions and use God given common sense. In racing just as in life there has always been an understanding of the rules and people obided by them, the "Rule Book" has always been a basic "Outline" and we all understood and agreed.
Now a days with so many "NEW" fans wanting to be "Couch Lawyers" and analize everything NASCAR does, THAT is whast is ridiculas and bad for the sport.

Those are some great points Eagle1. Having worked at a local track myself for several years, they do have rules that say family members will be considered team members if there is a fight or altercation.

Other sports are considering family members and fans as part of a team. The Southeastern Conference passed a rule that if fans of a school storm the field or court after a game, the school will be fined.

I ran a rec basketball league for a number of years. We had in our rules that a team is responsible for the action of its fans. We had one instance were friends of a team tried to assualt our officials after a game. We kicked the team out of the league for it.

Most leagues and sanctioning bodies have rules or policies about these types of things. If it's not a written rule now, it will be soon.

I'd vote to punish them by having them wrestle in a jello pit wearing bikinis. Come on, who's with me... :)

I'm not so sure about the jello but pulling hair, pointing fingers and screaming at each other would be Ok with me.

Thanks, I think?? LOL

I will say that I did not see the lines preceeding my origianl quote from the text:

Based on that information, it appears NASCAR has protected themselves from this happening and do have the authority. I just think it is silly, I mean I saw the exchange between them and there was no pshing, shoving, etc. Does NASCAR feel like they need to intervene on EVERY conversation??

I guess when you folks see the word REPRIMAND you automatically think of points and money fines. I see nothing more than a VERBAL REPRIMAND to Biffle's girlfriend stating that what she did is/was unacceptable behavior and won't be tolerated. Nothing more, nothing less.

As originally posted by wolfcub

They should take a lesson from the WWE. Have Helton and France drop their trousers and make drivers and crews (and it seems family members) kiss their butts. And all those who don't like the rules should be subjected to a public urination test. :D

But no shoving and bad words, please. :growl:

NASCAR has a tremendous responsibility to keep ALL things under control in the pits, garage and on the track.

The point ??? NASCAR clips the wings of the two birds and everyone gets the message. Every person in the pits or garage has been warned and from this point on knows, NASCAR will intervene.

They'll probably tell her if she does something like that again, she'll be denied pit access for a few races.

nascar could sell tickets to this and make some cash......i'll buy one!

That's the spirit. We could start a regular series. Jeff's squeeze vs Jimmie's. Buffy vs Teresa E. The possibilities are endless... ;)

I really wonder what today's NASCAR would have done when they witnessed Lee Petty's wife swinging her purse and hitting Tiny Lund on the head. Ah yes, the times they are a changin'.

My momma wore combat boots (TRUTH) and she could kick butt!

Why not do a mud wrestle? (New rule in Nextel/Busch/CTS) Thong Bikinis only for both male and female, Kenny Wallace as commentator (he makes me laugh) with Jesse (The Snake) Ventura or even Hulk Hogan as judges.

Act like a donkey's behind, and get some fun out of life!

I love to see emotional outbursts in nascar, i dont usually expect it from the girlfriends but hey what ever it takes. NASCAR needs to stop repremending emotion. NASCAR fans dedicated. We hand on the edge of our seat every lap, and i dont know about everyone else but when i hear the announcer yell TROUBLE, i get a sinking feeling in my stomach until is see that my drive wasnt in it, and it liable to ruin the rest of the day if he was. Us fans are passionate and i want to see our drivers be and nascar punishing every outburst ( especially differently) is a joke.

Firstly, capitalize your "I"s, paisan. Secondly, it's spelled "reprimanding."

Thirdly, I hear you have stolen my name or blatantly plagarized it. You young punks have to learn to show respect to a man like me. However, if you acknowledge me in the General Chit-Chat subforum, then I'll forget the insult. Capische, paisan?

You're going to start with the "I"s and spelling and overlook "NASCAR fans dedicated." I won't even mention "We hand on the edge of our seat every lap...". happyfan29 is happy. He's generally harmless. We just let him sit in the corner babbling on. No one really tries to interpret what he says.

:D j/k there happy... ;)
