What should NASCAR do concerning injured drivers in the hunt for a championship?

I like it like it is but they need to distribute the points better to the top finishers

Isn't it DRIVER points that make a championship??? YES!!!

But I wouldn't mind some point modifications.... NOT just the 5 point spread at the top.

i personally dont cheer for the 24 car, i cheer for jeff, if he was injured i might cheer on the car, but its just not the same

Yes, the driver points determine the championship. But, I don't think it would hurt nascar to make a slight modification to the driver points rule. I would like to see nascar make a change to the effect that if any driver, due to injury, needed to be out of the car, for no more than say one maybe two races, that a substitute driver could drive the car and the injured driver could still receive the points won during that race. This situation already exists, to a point, but the driver has to start a race and then make the substitute driver switch. I know that scenario would not help out Sterling, since his situation is very different, or Bobby Hamilton (both out 2+ races) , but I really don't see that it would be detrimental to the sport. This is just my opinion, and take it for what it's worth, just my opinion.

I believe that the current system is just fine. I would hate to see a driver win the title when they didn't even run two or three of the races in the season. There would be a lot of people take advantage of that on the road courses too and I don't want to see that happen.

A driver getting injured is no differant than him blowing a motor,or running a bad race when it comes to being a points contender. It just part of it.;)

Do away with so called champion-ship. Decide the champion on the track, not a pts thing.

The points championship is for drivers, not car owners. I see no reason to change it.

A record from the dark ages of 1963 stands today and I'd wager will not likely ever be broken regarding drivers and owners involved in the hunt for the points crown.

Joe Weatherly won the championship in 1962 and somehow still managed to find himself without a full time ride for 1963. So he went looking for any seat an owner would let have.

Bud Moore offered "Little Joe" a ride for the major events and Weatherly drove Bud's car 34 times that season. For the rest of the races he hitched a ride wherever he could, sometimes in less than stellar equipment.

Little Joe managed to capture the crown that season in the final race at Riverside. Along the way he drove for a total of nine car owners. One of the teams he drove for was Petty Enterprises, the driver he beat for the championship; Richard Petty.

Never before or since had a driver won the championship driving so many different cars in the season. Odds are they never will.

That is right, and the best way to put it Scrabman.Let a driver decide the Winston cup. That is a league of its own. :)

A driver should decide it. So what if the owners are affiliated with the car. They aren't the one racing lap after lap. It's all on the drivers whether they get hurt or they lose their ride.
