Ride of Their Lives out on DVD soon: NASCAR is presented like never before when NASCAR: The Ride of Their Lives debuts on DVD February 10, 2009 from CMT Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment for the SRP of $24.99. Featuring footage that sets viewers right in the midst of the action, The Ride of Their Lives is a moving, adrenaline-filled journey chronicling a true American dream -- this is the story of the men who built NASCAR. The DVD also includes over 60 minutes of extended scenes with NASCAR greats and their first-hand account on the history of the sport. Narrated by Academy-Award winner Kevin Costner, the history of NASCAR is presented through passionate, exclusive first-person accounts from the people who lived it. Compelling stories of loss and redemption follow the evolution of racers from the moonshiners of the 1950s to the media darlings of the 21st Century, making this a must-own DVD for NASCAR fans and beyond. The Ride of Their Lives contains striking archival footage chronicling the sport's first 60 years to a half-century of Daytona 500 races, and also documents the remarkable changes in the competition, the technology, the sport's ever-growing fanbase and the rock-star racers themselves, exploring why it's the biggest spectator sport in America. This DVD includes all-new interviews with famed NASCAR personalities Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jeff Gordon, Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip, as well as the final interview with Bill France, Jr., former NASCAR President (1972-2000) and son of NASCAR Founder Bill France. THIS is on SHOWTIME2 now.

Andy, how about giving a report on the program. If it is as good as you think it may be I might buy the DVD.

It was on TV around Xmas time. Pretty good. Really went into the history a lot. IMO they missed at the end with their coverage of Lil'E so much. I thought they should have had more on the current guys and not just him, if they were going to do the current guys. It had a lot from Big Bill and Bill Jr., Kyle interviewing Richard. Covered Richmond pretty good. There was nothing ground shaking revealed.
I wish I had taped it and burned to DVD.

This was the last in-depth interview done with Bill France, Jr. He died soon after the taping.

Kyle interviewing Richard was really neat.

The interplay between Rick Hendrick and Dale Jr was good, also.

I really liked that the show gave Tim Richmond the recognition he deserves.

And the Dodson boys talking about how the floor in Big E's car was beat down so Dale could get low in the car.

From what I understand, the DVD will contain another hour that was not shown on TV.

I think I did tape this when it was on the Country Music channel. The old stuff was good and it seemed like some of Kyle interviewing Richard was used in another production - even if it was a pre-race show, I can't remember, but there was some of it shown. I enjoyed watching and learning about Tim Richmond since I've heard of him, but didn't really know anything much about him. Yes, they could have done better with the current guys as I recall.

I think I caught some of this show on A&E or one of those type channels, never saw all of it though. I do remember seeing the part about Tim Richmond, who I thought was one of the best drivers I've ever seen when i was a kid. Richmond came to Stafford once a long time ago, i can remember a lot of the fans staying after the race to talk with him and get his autograph, I think it was right around the time i graduated high school, 1979-1980, anyway he was a really personable guy. I always though highly of Richmond , too bad his career was cut short.
