Name in order your favorite nascar driver to announcer. These are mine.

1. Kyle Petty
2. Michael Waltrip
3. DW
4. Ned Jarret
5. Darrell Jarret
6. Rusty Wallace

I may have missed someone I'm sure you guys will chime in if I did.

I don't know about you guys but I'd much rather listen to DW than Rusty any day.

Benny Parsons
Ned Jarrett
Phil Parsons, and as a last resort;
Wally Dallenbach

You didn't ask for it but...

People who were in the sport but should NEVER be allowed within 100 feet of a microphone: Any driver whose last names starts with Waltrip or McReynolds.

The rest I'm ambivalent about. They merely furnish informed noise.

Benny and Phil Parsons
Wally Dallenbach
Kyle Petty
Mikey Waltrip
Ned and Dale Jarrett

Of the ones still around,

Kyle Petty
Dale Jarrett
Wally Dallenbach
Phil Parsons
Jaws
Rusty Wallace

BP and Ned were the best hands down when they were around.

#1 all time, David Hobbs!!!

Phil Parsons deserves to call the cup cars, He is really good.

Heckava lot better than Dallenbach, Weber and Rusty Wallace.

Seriously, best driver to commentator, Ned Jarrett.

Kyle Petty
Dale Jarrett
Dale JR :D

Ned Jarrett was great and I always loved BP...

I know Kevin Harvick announces some of the races at well... he did a good job at Daytona when he was in the FOX booth for the Shootout a couple years ago. I didn't see SPEED's coverage of Rockingham (because I was watching the race from atop the infield viewing platform:cool:) but I know he was there for that race as well.

Totally agree on Phil Probably the most UNDER rated former driver booth people in the business today.

WHEW! Am I glad you ended the post with the "Seriously..." statement. I was thinking: "David Hobbs??? Wow! What a concept!"
My favourite David Hobbs story is the 1992 or 1993 Daytona 500. In one driver interview, with his cultured very British accent, he introduced Dale Earnhardt as "Here is the driver who chauffeurs one of these three thousand pound behemoths around this track."
Dale gave him a blank look and said, "I drive a Chevie."

David was a good announcer but I think he was a bit misplaced doing NA__AR in the era he was in.

I miss Buddy Baker.

Always appreciated and enjoyed his humor.

But he could tell you what was wrong with a car just watching it and he was usually right.

I have to agree. Speed's ALMS and Grand-Am/Koni reporters are great. Plus I like the british accent.

This is a great thread. I even liked Jackie Stewart, but I'll go with what we have today.
Dallenbach to me is the best,
Phil Parsons,
Kyle Petty,
Dale Jarrett.

I loved Benny when he first came to the booth, but in his later years, he was such a shill for NASCAR, kinda like DW is. I think that Wally doesn't pull any punches and to me that makes a big difference.

I like Dallenbach as well.......and I dont know how you categorize Allen Bestwick....but I really like him too

I don't believe that Allen was ever a driver, but I could be wrong. I used to like Allen and really liked him on the radio side, but I tired of him in the TV booth.

I know he isn't a DRIVER or EX DRIVER but I like John Roberts on the Speed Shows.

I'll have to go with Ned Jarret, Wally Dallenbach, then Phil Parsons. BP was ok in the begining , but like Buck said in the later years he was too pro-Nascar for me. I think Wally does a great job and Petty needs a little more professionalism in the booth, but he does a decent job. DW needs to go sick of him, also Larry Mac and the other idiot have to get a new act, this one is old, I don't care how many women think he has cute buns. Sadly, Fox will never replace these guys because they ae all about the "glitz and glamour production" rather than the racing at hand.

Yeah, never understood how or why C.B.S. hired him to do NASCAR coverage. The Brit also had a appearence in the Stock Car movie classic and my favorite race movie, "Stroker Ace".

David Hobbs was great calling any kind of race. He makes the boring F-1 races seem somewhat interesting.

If I had to list them, I'd have to go in this order:

1. Neil Bonnett
2. Ned Jarrett
3. Benny Parsons
4. Kyle Petty
5. Darrell Waltrip
6. David Hobbs
7. Wally Dallenbach
8. Phil Parsons
8. Buddy Baker
10. Dale Jarrett

Alive:
Petty
Dallenbach
Jarrett (both)
Mike Waltrip during truck races.

The rest of them annoy the crap out of me.

Dick Brooks as a pit reported on MRN was the best..
uhh uhhh uhhhh

well I gotta go with Ned Jarrett, first class all the way. Neil Bonnet was my second fav..... i loved his show Winners on TNN back in the day. But you could hear the longing in his voice when he was in the booth. Always like Mike Joy as well, and before you say he didn't race.... uhm, he did. he ran many SCCA roadcourse events and was a promoter for a bit....And sorry but I like DW.... yea he gets a bit annoyin at times, but he is fun. Same as Kyle Petty..... he has some good stuff. And Don't forget Buddy Baker. His broadcasting skills were ok at best, but God, some of his one liners and the stories he came up with, priceless.....
as far as pit reporters, always liked Glenn Jarrett..... Phil Parson's was good I thought in the booth and in the pits, and a really good guy. And Dick Brookes, how could ya NOT love a pit reporter dressed in overalls and a cap...... he knew bs when he heard it too......lol

As far as worse, well dont forget Jackie Stewart and David Hobbes......uuugh. but i gotta admit I giggled evertime they would say "let's go to the pits and Jack Arute..........lol...... sounded soooooo funny as a kid.

From DW......

Here's another funny story that I was reminded of on XM Satellite Radio Channel 144 the other day. Back in the 1980's, it was fun to listen to Barney Hall, Mike Joy and Eli Gold on MRN's race broadcasts. In the pits, you had Ned Jarrett and Dick Brooks. During one race, Richard Petty's clutch was slipping so the booth threw to Brooks in the pits for a report. He started trying to explain how a clutch works. He started talking about how it's got three discs, and the report went on and on. It must have lasted for five minutes. Finally, he ran out of things to say about what was wrong with the clutch and how it worked.

Brooks said, "So I guess I'll just throw it back upstairs."

Barney Hall replied, "And in our next segment, Dick Brooks is going to explain how to do brain surgery."

It was one of the most hilarious moments I've ever heard, but that's the way Brooks was. He had a different perspective, and he probably marched to the beat of quite a different drummer. But he was a great driver. He got his lone win at Talladega in 1973, and he had a lot of chances at winning a whole bunch more races, including that 1983 Daytona 500.

He was a great driver and a car owner for a while. With his bib overalls, he was one of the funniest men I've ever met. He was a country gentleman from Califonia who will be dearly missed. I have a lot of fond memories of competing against him and being interviewed by him on a number of occasions. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
