The 2010 Chase field was invited to the White House, but five drivers (Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle and Kurt Busch) are not attending due to "scheduling conflicts". One of those drivers gets direct sponsorship from the US Army.

Yeah, but 2010 is last year's news.

And most drivers prolly would not be all that interested in meeting Mr. Obama and Nancy Pelosi. But, I'm just guessing...

You don't have a scheduling conflict when the President of the United States invites you to The White House. Period. End of story.

Depends on whos in office, I have no need to meet Obama, because i could not keep my mouth shut on what i think of him, plus i got a racecar to work on.

If I got invited to the White House I'd go just to say I met the President heck I don't care who it is in that office I'd be like hey hey..I met the president.

Should this be moved to the podium as we all know the direction in which it's headed.

Drivers going to the White House has always been a sore subject, ever since Mark Martin turned down the invite from Andrew Jackson.

Saw that somewhere. :D

How many NASCAR events has any President been to? Reagan once (in an election year just saying) and Bush once?

I'm just saying forget politics how many chances in your life do you get to meet the President.

Well we all know Ronald Reagan attended the 1984 Pepsi 400.

George Bush attended the NASCAR awards banquet in 84 or 85.

Bill Clinton was at the 1992 Daytona 500.

George W. Bush was the Grand Marshall at the 2000 Pepsi 400 and attended the 400 again in 2004.

Not Presidents but Dick Cheney and John McCain have both attended NASCAR races.

5 Nascar Drivers Crap on Obama....

Five NASCAR Drivers Decline President Obama's White House Invitation
by Jeff Gluck • Sep 1, 2011 10:37 PM EDT

President Barack Obama will honor NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and the 11 other Chase drivers from last year in a White House ceremony on Wednesday – but nearly half of the 2010 playoff contenders won't be there.

NASCAR said Thursday that five drivers – Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart – will not be attending the White House visit due to "schedule conflicts."

UPDATE: Busch said Friday he will attend the White House visit after all.

That's what he gets for waiting until the last minute to send out the invites. 2 weeks isn't much lead time with the chase coming up. Obama had all year to schedule this.

All election years.

My memory isn't what it was, but I'm pretty sure these guys were at the White House last year. I saw pictures. :D lol

2009. I saw pictures as well, through my camera lens.

Getting to go to The White House is always an honor no matter who's President. Even if Palin was President, I'd still accept an invitation.

true it's politics but also very stupid. it's easy to tell there are no racing fans in the obama admin. would he invite last years world series champs to the white house two weeks before the playoffs? how about the nba champs just before the playoffs? obama wouldn't know what a stock car is until/unless he got run over by one. that would get his attention. <g>

I'd go, and then I'd tell Obama to stop being a *****.

Stewart also had a scheduling conflict, though he declined to go into details.

"Trust me, if we could be there, we'd definitely be there," he said. "I've always viewed it as an honor just to get an invitation to go. I've enjoyed every trip every time I've gone there. I've learned more and more about it. And it's pretty cool feeling to be with most powerful man in the world. That's not an invitation we take lightly."

I was told Smoke has an appointment to get his back waxed. :D

from jayskis:

•Greg Biffle: WHY ARE YOU NOT GOING TO THE WHITE HOUSE?
"First of all, I'll start by saying that I'm disgusted by the comments I see, that people say we rejected or 'I can't believe that Biffle rejected'. For one, that's disrespectful for people not knowing why I can't go. Number two, I've got a picture of myself and the President, Barack Obama, in my bookshelf in my office right behind my desk shaking hands at the White House. I've been there and I've done that and I respect that. I was very flattered to get the invitation. I got the invitation less than two weeks ago to go and I've got a function that I'm obligated to be at with 3M in Minnesota that they've had planned for basically nine months. It's an annual thing, but they have over 100-and-some of their business people and customers at that I go for two days. We arrive Wednesday morning early and I don't get to Richmond until late Thursday night. I called them and talked about the invitation and this was very important to them because the function is designed around me and they really can't have it if I don't go. Unfortunately, the date conflicts with the invitation. First of all, define what rejected means. Does that mean I refuse to go? Or does rejected mean I can't make it, I want to go but I can't? It's kind of discouraging to see those comments when somebody doesn't know the circumstance. If I hadn't been and hadn't met him and shook his hand and been in the Oval Office with him before, I might try to chisel my sponsor a little harder to let me go, and I don't want to put it on them, it's simply I have an obligation that I accepted long before this. A lot of times we can move our schedules around depending on what it might be, but when you have people coming from other countries that are planning on meeting you and being with you for a day-and-a-half, it's really hard to change that."(Ford Racing)(9-3-2011)

LOL

Tony Stewart may not go to the White House, but he did go to the U.S Nationals Drag Race in Indy, on Monday. We were standing on the starting line watching the final rounds of the nitro classes, and I noticed espn was shooting us, and I thought that was kind of strange since we were not in the finals. Then I noticed that Tony was standing next to me. He is a pretty cool dude.

I heard he raced a UMP Mod at Duquion on Monday Morning. Came from 21st to 2nd behind Schrader
He might have. He didn't say anything about it. I think it was between 5:00 and 6:00pm here in Indy when I seen him. ESPN was all over him. I havn't seen the race on tv yet, but I think it was live, and I would bet the bank that they showed him on their broadcast. :)

Jeff Burton said he's having trouble getting there. Several roads in DC closed due to flooding from the torrential downpour we've had all morning... including portions of the Outer Loop.

There's also a leak in the roof of the press room at The White House causing it to rain INSIDE.

You are correct. I just found out that Tony, and a couple of his crew guys, and his engine tuner flew to Ill and he raced a dirt modified until about 1:00pm, and then they came to Indy.:)
