Interesting announcement yesterday from NASCAR. NASCAR appears to be making big moves withing the NASCAR Media Group by bringing in Steve Herbst. Who's he? I didn't know either but he has been heavily involved in the NBA and the NBA television network. NASCAR seems to be gearing up not only on the television front but also in many other directions as well.

Do any of you know when that Turner contract is up? I think that there are going to be plenty of new things available once that contract is up. That had to be one of the worst off track moves that NASCAR has ever made IMO.

According to the link the contract with Turner runs through 2014.
Jan 22 (Reuters) - U.S. cable network Turner Broadcasting System on Tuesday announced a multiyear contract extension with NASCAR to continue to operate the racing circuit's official Web site.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The extension, which runs through 2014, also allows Time Warner Inc(TWX.N)-owned TBS to collaborate on content creation, e-commerce and race ticket sales, in addition to operating the NASCAR.com site, Turner said.

To TNT's credit, it's just my opinion but since they got rid of "The Hairdo," (Bill Weber) TNT might be the best announcing team, Wally Dallenbach and Marty Snyder notwithstanding.

Wally's my favorite.

Wally's also doing color com. for Indycar on Versus. He provides wonderful insight for both NASCAR and Indycar broadcasts, since he drove full time in each series at one time. Thus, he can back up his comments from a driver's standpoint.

I thought he'd have a scheduling conflict on June 19th when Cup is in Michigan on TNT, and Indycar is at Milwaukee.
Looks like ABC is covering the Milwaukee race, though.

Nope, Milwaukee is on VS.

I'm wondering how that's gonna work as well.

I'm fully expecting VS to be in play in NASCAR contract negotiations in a few years, especially now that they're under the same roof as NBC Sports. And I bet the Indianapolis 500 ends up on NBC in a few years.

I will agree that Wally is better than the experts FOX and ESPN throws at the audience. I believe what initially turned me off with Wally was his silly and contrived "Wally's World" spot where he took a lap around the track with some celebrity. I know a lot of people liked it but for me personally, it just was so much wasted air time. I do agree that Wally tends to tell it like it is, though. That is something I've seen DW do on rare occasions, when he's not talking to to hear himself make noise, or hyping his brother, Toyota, Junior, Kyle Bush, or himself.

IMNSVHO, the very best thing TNT ever did was send Bill Weber packing.

Kyle Petty aint returning to broadcast both is he? Because to me as much as Wally will tell it like it is you got to hear twice as much talk from Kyle kissing Nascars ass with every decision they make.
