Well I've got good news and bad news (actually stupid news).

We had a good time watching although I don't have a clue how they score this event LOL. Couldn't understand a word the announcer was screaming (Kinda WWF/ Monster truck type), they were not broadcasting from the tower, so there were no transmission coming from there so we had to try and listen to the PA.
Kasey Kahne, Bill Elliot, Casey Mears, Scott Wimmer, Robby Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle were the full time NASCAR guys, and Chris Cook (who will be trying to qualify for the Busch race this weekend) Chris did a bit of drifting with a Busch car, did pretty fair too.

Kasey was good, he drove a Dodge Viper.
Biff & Matt shared a Mustang, they were really funny trying to get the hang of it but while one was driving, the other was the passenger! IMO, Biff got the hang of it better than Matt, but they both did their share of spinning out. Looked to me like they were having a great time.
Bill Elliot was there for driver intro and did one round and then disappeared.
Scott Wimmer was like the dance wall flower and he never really did quite seem to get the hang of it.
Robby, Robby Robby! What can I say, as much as I really like him I'd like to smack him side the head sometimes. Early while practicing Robby was great, he could run circles around the other Cup guys. When he went out for his first round I think he was trying to show off and got into the wall. He ended the evening driving a different car and did pretty good but MUCH reserved! LOL
Casey Mears was really darn good at doing this too.

All the guys hung out together in between rounds and was laughing and joking and cutting up. Sure seemed like they got along pretty damn good, except for BE who disappeared, and Scott Wimmer that spent the night standing by his car all alone. Oh yeah and Robby for a round or so while trying to fix the Red Bull car. But after it retired, he rejoined the others. I can't swear to it, but I think I saw him writing a check to the Red Bull driver. (I was watching through Binoculars)
Even though I don't understand the scoring, there's certain things that need no explanation such as the paramiters of the track they're to stay within, so that's a good start.
The object is to spin and smoke your tires as much as possible while sliding the car at a 40 ? degree angle. Hard for the Cup guys is you want your car sliding (drifting) sideways without building up much forward speed. You need to be able to sling the car from drifting to the right, to drifting to the left smoking around corners just a couple feet to inches from another car. I think Biff was secretly, (maybe not so secretly) hoping Robby G would really get the hang of this part!

If you spin out your time doesnot count. If you touch and spin another car you are DNQ'd.

OK, the stupid news.................. They wouldn't allow people to take camaras in if they could take video, and all digetal camaras will do short video clips! So.......... NO pictures!

Funny thing though, they didn't disallow phones, which can also take video clips (and I watched many using them while I fumed!)

Other than that, we had a great time.

Looks like you'll have to get a digital SLR next time...They don't do movie clips...

I've watched drifting on TV. It's weird, and I don't really get too excited over it. But still, I'd love to see a live show. Would have been fun to have been there.

Even not understanding the rules and scoring, I totally enjoyed the show!!!!
Man!!!!! If ya have breathing problems, be sure to get a seat up wind or you get to inhale a ton of burnt rubber smoke!!! LOL Then you get the excitable ones, like Kasey Kahne, that did victory donuts before his runs. LOL
Really a lot of fun!!!!!

I watched some of it on SPEED and even tho I have no clue about "Drifting" but enjoyed the show!
I also watched Smoke shake, rattle and roll in a Sprint car! KEWL!
