NASCAR Hall of Fame nominees being announced

My picks: Bill Elliott, Bobby Isaac, Fred Lorenzen, Larry Phillips and Wendell Scott.

I won't be surprised if they induct Bill Elliott, Terry Labonte, Richard Childress, Rick Hendrick and Bruton Smith.

Of course Smokey Yunick wasn't nominated. Surprised Mark Martin wasn't inducted. I guess the rule changes were for Bill Elliott and Terry Labonte.

If Jerry Cook and Mike Stefanik are inducted before Larry Phillips, I'll be extremely shocked and disappointed.

@bobpockrass

2014 nominees no longer on ballot: Clay Earles, Anne B France, Ralph Seagraves, T Wayne Robertson, Les Richter.

honestly I think they should only put 3 people in a year...

Five a year is fine. All I'm saying is, if Richie Evans was a first ballot HOF'er, so is Larry Phillips (who wasn't inducted last year).

Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick. Obviously, I disagree. They have their places solidified but not now. They're still active.

What I find amusing is, all the talk about "The Mark Martin Rule" and it was used to nominate Mike Stefanik, Terry Labonte and Bill Elliott.

IMO, Mark Martin's a first ballot HOF'er but there are quite a few people who don't think he deserves to be there at all. It's amusing that so much emphasis is placed on Cup Championships and Daytona 500 wins but they're nominating and inducting Modified drivers. Martin getting the snub is almost as bad as Phillips not being inducted first ballot and Chris Economacki not being inducted or nominated at all.

I am very saddened that Anne France has been taken off the ballot.
(Brian please just do a press conference and enshrine her by executive decree).

Anne as Nascars first book keeper worked in the day when paper cuts were much more likely and risky. The papers were heavier too and much harder to put in a typewriter or in a mailbox (and, yes she had to do real mail, the youngsters may need to Google "mail"). Heavy paper cuts continuously had her at risk for amputation.

Anne didnt have spellcheckers either, handling technical issues like spelling the two Yarborrows correctly, and matching them up correctly or exactly to Cale and LeeRoy was handled very professionally.

The old type writers (the keyboard thingys) and phones were so much heavier too. Now DanicaGood looking girls get the bookeeping jobs. Anne was the real first Nascar book keeper.
(For those less knowledge of the "Real Real history that the Frances really dont want you to Know" see my related post regarding LeeRoy).

But the most important thing you need to know is that her last name is France. We shouldn't be debating elementarys like if she is worthy of entry? By now we should be tracing the France family tree and putting in more of them, even the cousins and so forth.

I like Modified racers and I'm glad their included but no way should Mike Stefanik go in before Mark Martin. The guy may not have won a top title but he was a top ten driver for probably 20 years.

It would be interesting to see the results if one could only pick Elliott or Terry Labonte.

I agree. The HoF needs to be for the most elite and a capstone for the greatest careers. It needs to be very elusive or almost unattainable. A very select few otherwise it becomes diluted. When one goes in, there should not be much of a debate about their qualifications.

Baseball and Football has more participants and history to draw from for selection. Aside from the CFL, almost all great football players come through the NFL.

In contrast NASCAR is brand aligned. The great ASA drivers Eddy, Sennaker etc, todays late model dirt drivers, Steve Kinser etc accomplishments do not get considered. With five going in a year it is going to get liquidated down from excellence down to just above average.

And a driver also shouldn't be eligible if they have been starting Cup races in recent years. If they wanna ride around collecting the appearance money and past championship provionals they shouldn't get to have it both ways.

Really the best thing for them to do is just listen to me :) and follow my instructions.
