DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR has reinstated driver AJ Allmendinger upon his successful completion of NASCAR's Substance Abuse Policy Road to Recovery Program. Allmendinger had been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR on July 24 for violating the sanctioning body's substance abuse policy.

Good for him. Now, to find a job as I don't see Penske having a place for him except maybe the NNS.

pretty quick to be reinstated. couldn't have been that bad of an offense. i don't see him returning to penske but hope someone picks him up.

Great to hear. Like SlowNeasy says, it must not have been that big of an offense or it was something that they didn't feel was habitual. It's good to read a success story. Hopefully it will continue.

There was an article posted where the writer claimed that AJ was lying and that he'd been busted for high quantities of amphetamines in his system etc. The writer also claimed that AJ's assertion that he was nearly done with the program was a lie. A bunch of people here lined up to agree with the writer and bag on AJ. It turns out that the writer's supposed "source" was either made up of lying because nothing he said was correct.

All of the naysayers should be enjoying their heaping pla(tes of crow.

I don't care to inflict any more damage on AJ than he has upon himself. But that doesn't mean he is a victim, and the damage that he allowed to himself exceeds any metaphorical crow that needs to be eaten by a poster. In fact AJ expected people to swallow an idiotic BS explanation himself.

In short his pain doesn't excuse his dumb acidness and deflecting his accountability helps no one.

Got a link to that? I don't remember reading it.

Not quite his synopsis. Didn't AJ say he would be done in 6 weeks? Maybe that was it. AJ also said that Aegis told him it was Adderall, but that wasn't true. Which leaves us to wonder how AJ knows what that mystery pill was.

I don't get it, obviously it wasn't that serious so why did he hide for so long before issuing a statement, that's why I thought it was more serious. Good on him and good luck, in the future don't be so dumb

Bad advice from PR flacks ????

I don't see anyone bothering to give him a ride. He really wasn't that good to begin and it's not going to be an easy to find a sponsor that wants him with the baggage he brings.

He will probably end up in the Rolex Grand am series.

I don't follow the Indy Series at all but I did see in USA Today that Penske has just two drivers firmed up for three Indy Cars in 2013. That being the case along with Penske having him at the Indy event a week or two ago parading him around, I'd guess that's where he's heading.

Negotiations with Briscoe are hung up, so maybe that's where he'll end up. That would be a HUGE favor from Roger.

A.J. Foyt has an interest in him. That's probably where he will go. I don't see him back in NASCAR, not soon anyway.

Thought it was a minimum of 3 months to get re-instated? About the only ride in na$car he'll get is driving a golf cart for a driver,,maybe.

I had thought it was minimum of one year suspension. (Which I would have no problem with) This does show that NASCAR has a program that works and we now have had two drivers complete the "Road to Recovery" and be reinstated recently. I think AJ returns to open wheel, even without his suspension his stock car days weren't looking bright. He only had a one year deal with Penske and he was having a dismal season yet again.

I tried my best to read the above post's but it looked like all of the other post's and threads in the past. He made it in a short period of time which to me means that it is over and he can try to get on with his life and racing. That is if the a$$wipes will put it behind them and move on to try and torment somebody else.

Allmendinger visits Talladega: AJ Allmendinger upped his effort to find a new job on Friday by making his first appearance at a NASCAR event since his suspension for failing a drug test. The visit to Talladega Superspeedway is the first since Allmendinger's July 7 suspension. He was reinstated by NASCAR last month and is looking for a job for 2013 after being dropped by Penske Racing three months ago. "I'm looking, but from reading the Internet, there doesn't seem to be a lot of jobs out there," Allmendinger said. "Nobody has told me to get out yet," joked Allmendinger, who stopped in the Penske Racing garage stalls and visited with his former crew. "It's been a lot of fun to be back in the garage. It's been a rough few months, and I'm just really glad to be back here." James Finch, owner of the #51 car at Phoenix Racing, said he'll likely use Regan Smith next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway but isn't opposed to talking with Allmendinger. Kurt Busch is replacing Smith at Furniture Row beginning next week, and Finch has six races to fill this year. "I like AJ, I'd be willing to do something with him, but I don't know what sponsors would have to say about him," Finch said. "It's something I just don't have an answer for right now."
