Like every morning I log on to the racing-forums.com NASCAR Forum for hopefully some NASCAR news and banter. This morning I get on there and see 'redirects' littering the page from the top down. What the heck's going on? This is all NASCAR related. 'PeopleAreStrange' & 'Greg' created some good topics with track poll and discussion IMO. I'm not sure why that's moved out of the NASCAR section. I'm confused why these polls are different than ones that I've been seeing on here for years. Maybe it's just me and I'm missing the point. Does this mean that we can no longer post polls in the NASCAR section that are NASCAR related? Personally I feel that moving the NASCAR related polls and the like are the kiss of death to discussion on the threads subjects. Again, only speaking for myself, I don't frequent the games & contests area of the boards so I would have never had the chance to cast my vote. Could a subsection of the NASCAR area of the forum be created to allow the posting of NASCAR related polls? At the very least that may allow us to know that the NASCAR related poll actually exists and give us an opportunity to look at it and participate.

I recently started a thread for a Brian France To-Do List. I intended on some users coming up with some good ideas that maybe could be passed along to those that are in charge of instituting change in the sport. I was going to send the list to NASCAR via way of the NASCAR fan council since I am a member. When I feel that the thread has died down enough I was going to compile the list and bring up the changes for a vote, or a poll if you will, that would allow the forum to decide what we would send to them. Am I allowed to do that or is that a contest?

Back in February I started a 2012 NASCAR BOLD Prediction Thread. This, no doubt, will come out to be a tie as it has previously. I intended on posting a tie breaker in the form of a poll. Am I allowed to do that or is that a contest?

I don't know, maybe other users are complaining about the number of polls or something but personally I don't have an issue with it. Life's so easy these days with the invention of the 'computer mouse' and 'scroll wheel' that I find it very easy to pass threads on a page that I don't feel like reading. I hate to think that the voice of one is going to dictate what the rest of us are able to view on the NASCAR forum.

OK, so I took a breath and have now had a couple swigs of coffee.

My only question is..... How can we differentiate a poll from a contest?

dp, good question. Maybe we went a little overboard trying to clean up the look of the forum.
Give me a chance to pour some coffee into this fuzzy head, and I'll take a second look.

Well said dpk. I see the forum as self cleaning anyway. If nobody is interested in a thread, it quickly drops to the bottom of the page as others post new threads, or even respond to old threads. IMO, spanking a poster who keeps bumping their own thread to the top would be sufficient control. Perhaps allowing multiple polls in a single thread would help. Maybe it's already an option that people don't know about.

No offense to the mods. I just wondered if a sub section to the NASCAR forum might work better for NASCAR polls? Maybe a way to know when you enter the NASCAR section that polls are available?

Good idea. It would keep the thread list neat and clean and perhaps make it easier for the Cope twins to find their true calling.

I have done my best not ever try to tell any administrator(s) anywhere on the Internet how to run their forums unless asked.
They pay the bills and let me yap on their dime.
I am a happy camper.

I will say I have tried to time my polls during off weeks or the off season. BTW I plan on doing a BIG ' who's the best active driver' poll contest in December and January.
But I can appreciate an interest to keep Nascar chat limited to current events or current news.

Maybe a sticky instruction in Nascar chat that would help to redirect newer folks and those just lurking to look to contest forums for Nascar related polls.
It could also instruct thread creators to put them there.

I appreciate Dpkimmel's2001 too, he is serious no fooling around, all about Nascar in a positive way.

I like dpkimmel2001's suggestion too, for a sub section I had already wrote my previous post prior to reading it.

I agree with everybody listed above.

I don't know if we need a sub section and I've never tried to post a poll here but couldn't one thread post a few different polls in it? That would tidy everything up.

That's what I was thinking. I believe all it would take is opening the poll option to multiple instances when creating a thread. If the entry point for poll tracking is flexable enough, it shouldn't take much coding.

Then again, what the hell do I know.

I know it can be done, I've seen it on other message boards. I was honestly too lazy to click on each thread and vote even though I was interested in some of the topics lol

Greg; I have really enjoyed those polls. They have made this site more interesting than other Nascar sites

I've gotta say I panicked last night when I saw all the redirects to the new forum over by where there's less traffic. I guess a sub-forum in the NASCAR forum isn't as bad, but I'm disappointed they can't be on the main NASCAR forum.

Not me, I'm glad TRL resolved the issue with grace and finese as usual.

Sincere thanks. I appreciate the compliment.

The admins and mods deserve the most credit, they give us a place to discuss it all.

I had a little panic attack as well. I hated to see them moved for the same reason but I'm sure glad that they are now able to remain in the NASCAR section. They stand out at the top of the page and it'll be easy to recognize when a new or updated poll is available.

I think it's pretty informative to see where people in this forum stand on some of these subjects. Often the polls don't go along with the general sentiment of the posters on here. I wish more of those silent pole takers would speak out on some of these subjects though.

+1

Hats off to the mods for coming up with a solution so quickly that will work so well.

 to the admins. Nicely done.

If only Nascar would listen more closely to our whining and ******** complaining because our worlds ain't perfect ;)
