What would you get if you mixed a grassroots America talent search with a dash of Michael Waltrip's gregarious personality and spread it liberally over NASCAR Nation? Answer: SPEED's new talent show, Fast Track to Fame.

Fast Track to Fame is produced exclusively for SPEED by Stars Avenue Productions in conjunction with FiveBinks Inc. David Hill and George Greenberg from Stars Avenue and Michael Binkow and Joe Revello from FiveBinks serve as executive producers.

Waltrip, one of NASCAR's most outgoing and popular personalities, is set to host. Charissa Thompson, well known for her work on FOX Sports and FSN, serves as co-host.

"With a massive SPEED presence at every NASCAR race all season long, Fast Track to Fame gives fans and viewers a whole new level of entertainment," SPEED president Hunter Nickell said. "This project is all about NASCAR fans having a great time … it's going to be a lot of fun."

Fast Track to Fame features real people from across NASCAR Nation including singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and variety acts of all types. The series premieres at 8 p.m. ET March 1, and each show is an hour long with as many as six repeat airings during the following week. Each installment is taped at a stop along the NASCAR schedule from late February through May, and 11 shows are scheduled. After the premiere, the remaining scheduled telecast dates are: March 8, 22, 29; April 12, 19, 26; May 3, 24, 31; and June 7, with all shows airing at 8 p.m. ET.

Acts are being solicited from NASCAR's legion of fans through local media in most of the locales where the show is taped and beyond, then auditioned by producers. Once acts are selected, eight to 10 per show, they'll square off against each other on the SPEED Stage either Friday or Saturday night in front of a NASCAR fan audience and a panel of three judges representing the worlds of pop culture, entertainment and/or racing. Weekly winners receive a $5,000 prize and compete during the two-show season finale, with 10 finalists going head-to-head to determine the ultimate winner. SPEED viewers may also have the chance to vote online for a "fan favorite" to compete in the grand finale episodes.

 That's all I got to say.

Maybe if this was a driver talent search, I might me interested. But probably not.

Fox is desperate. Stupid idea, and will be a huge flop.

I have to rant on this.

To me this is extremely stupid. I could care less about the talent level of some stupid, drunk, no tooth redneck trying to get their ugly mug on TV for their 15 minutes of fame. I tune into SPEED for one thing only and that’s to watch a race or catch up on racing news. Be it moto GP, F1, touring cars, or even nascar races from 5 years ago. I, like I'm sure a million other viewers out there, do not watch it in hopes that one day they will have a stupid talent show on the channel. I can't even watch "Pinks All Out" without wanting to kick in my TV half the time because some of the people are so painfully annoying. If I wanted to watch some idiot make a fool of themselves, I'd watch one of the 10 other retarded shows doing the same thing that are on another channels.

How about they cover the racing better instead of Danica, JJ and whoever is leading the race at the moment. How about a show having to do with other forms of racing and their minor circuits across the US. Go find us some new racing talent that other wise would not get a shot, the world has enough Kelly Clarksons out there.

A complete failure of an idea.

IMO they should do a spin-off of the Amazing Race. Michael Waltrip can host that show. In fact, make him the only contestant as well. Then let's see if he can win that race!

i'm waltrip'd out, both waltrips. stupid idea so may be a hit for speed viewers.

Maybe Speed has done an analysis of its audience and it isn't primarily race fans.Maybe its monster truck fans or game show fans.Maybe we are the minority here.Maybe its 12 yr olds they are trying to attract.Who really gives a crap about the older audience?

I think this is a sign that the Speed channel is reaching for something, pretty soon it will be like C.M.T. and showing reruns of Pimp my truck and movies like Pure Country and National Lampoons vacation!

(I like Pure Country)

CMT is a piece of crap. They only play like an hour of music a day and endless repeats of Supernanny or Extreme Makeover.

Anyway, the only way I would watch this show is if it was about a Team owner having driver auditions to get that ride. THAT is what the SPEED channel should be about.......
