Good idea / Bad idea. What do you think?

The NASCAR Media Group is not even two years old, but nowhere is the sanctioning body spending more money or more carefully plotting its future. Over the next few months, the media group will start moving out of its cozy, well-worn offices just south of downtown Charlotte. Its new $45 million home - $30 million in state-of-the-art equipment, $15 million in construction - will be adjoining the sparkling NASCAR Hall of Fame building in the heart of downtown, where it will occupy floors two through five of the 19-story office tower. Inside, the group will have everything it needs to start its own network, from multiple studios and control rooms, to full graphics and high-definition capability. Even though the hall of fame won't open for another year, the office space adjoining the attraction will be ready for occupancy in June. It will give NASCAR nearly limitless options when it enters the next round of media talks - its current deals for TV, radio, mobile and the Internet expire in 2014. And the idea of joining Major League Baseball, the NBA, NHL and NFL in starting its own network will be part of the discussion.

Thoughts?

They can't run what they got now with any kind of order. We think the coverage is bad now.I got a feeling it's fixing to get even worse:eek2:

NASCAR Media Group prepping for NASCAR Network?

Thought that was called Speed TV other than the 50 showings of Pinks and Unique Whips.

Unlike NFL Network, NBA Network and MLB Network, NASCAR TV won't be played on the big screen at every bar in America, so it won't work.

But, think about this.

Televised racing!

Live or taped coverage of Camping World Series, the Modified Tour:growl:, All American late model series and maybe even other racing series like UARA or CRA.

If NASCAR does what SPEED did at their launch (before News Corp FOX'd it up:rolleyes:), and actually airs MORE racing and LESS bull****, the potential is incredible!

I doubt they would air anything not NASCAR(like UARA and CRA) but it would be great to get some good coverage of East/West, Modifieds, NASCAR Canada, NASCAR Mexico.

They should take away everything NASCAR from Speed. Maybe then Speed would have to actually cover some races that aren't NASCAR.

You forgot the WoO races they air at 1am weeknights, the ARCA races they air at 2am on Friday nights, and the drag races they air at 5pm Saturday afternoons once a month.

I'd like to see something similar to the 'NFL Sunday Ticket' on DirecTV.

Have one, main NASCAR channel available to everyone.

Have several channels devoted during the Cup race to individual teams.

Have interactive stats during your viewing of the race similar to what DirecTV had on HotPass, only more in depth.

Continue broadcasting the drivers press conference from inside the media center after the race.

Have one camera entirely devoted to Kyle Busch's antics after the race. OK, maybe not that one but you get my drift. :beerbang:

What would they charge? Thats the main question I have. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay to watch a race on TV with some babbling idiot calling the race. Or some stupid a$$ cartoon popping up all over the place. The options dpkimmel2001 stated in his post might make me think about it but the coverage would have to be 1000% better than what I have seen over the last 2 years.

I'll just become a bigger IRL fan.

I'd have to second that motion, I don't pay for the Sunday Ticket, don't pay for any NHL or NBA or MLB packages, even though I am a sports fanatic. I can't see spending extra money on crap that amounts to a bunch of fluff. The only extra I have on my cable is an added sports tier so I can watch Speed. That is not on our basic Digital package anymore, so we have to anti up an extra $8/ month just so we can get Speed. If Nascar came out with an attractive package, it would have to to be top notch, most fans are very critical of tv coverage, so I see this not flying too well for the big honchos of Nascar.

Please bring back Buddy Baker to T.V. Also, can we have Dale Juniors "Back in the Day" show marathons on every major holiday? Have mutliple replays of "Stroker Ace" and "The Wendell Scott Story" during the week. And how about the Q.V.C. Show for race fans only where they could hock more Digger and Friends crap.

Noow you're talking!!! And all those thirty minute film "documentaries" of the Southern 500 (the real one on Labor Day) and all that Dick Wallen and the like footage that made those "so bad they were almost good" early race movies so entertaining, not to mention truly "time capsule" historic treasures!
