Nascar moves to spoilers at Martinsville

Driver Martin Truex Jr. said his Michael Waltrip Racing team has been testing with the spoiler at various tracks for the last two months.

“My first reaction is that it will look better. Every car I’ve ran in my entire life except the last two years has had a spoiler on it, so I feel more comfortable,” he said.
every day it looks more to me like there's very little difference, if any, in performance between a spoiler and the wing. i wonder if nascar changed to the wing just for the sake of saying they improved something that didn't need to be changed at all. and will somebody please explain to me why that damned splitter is needed? surely whatever good (imaginary) it serves could be done somehow else without cutting the tires of other cars that come into contact with it.

I think NASCAR just got tired of listening to traditionialists whining about the wing.

The new spoiler is hideous btw. Looks really out of place.

yeah, it's goofy looking but it still looks better than that hideous wing...
