NASCAR Considers News Organization
In an attempt to help raise NASCAR profile in media coverage, Chairman and CEO Brian France said Tuesday that he is considering developing content that could be used by news organizations. The move would address what Mr. France described as declining budgets at many news organizations as well as the lack of coverage for a sport that consistently draws large audiences. He discussed the idea during a general session Tuesday at the CTAM Summit in Philadelphia. While there are no firm plans in place, Mr. France said, he envisions creating an Associated Press-type of service that would be available to a broad swath of news organizations, including newspapers and television news operations. Mr. France said it was unlikely at this point that NASCAR would launch its own cable channel, but said with news-gathering budgets being cut, NASCAR is not getting its fair share of press, even as NASCAR events consistently draw huge audiences.(tvweek.com)

This is great news, now everything we hear will be nice and clean by NASCAR. :(

Eagle, you know of Greg Fielden, the author, right? When he was writing his latest book, NASCAR Chronicles, the powers that be didn't even want him mentioning that Dale died at Daytona.

So, I'm not surprised that NASCAR wants to control the news that gets out of the Daytona White House.

That's great, but gee whiz can you imagine what it's going to be like if "America's fastest-growing outdoor sport" grows faster than anticipated? Have you ever tried to get out of the parking lot after the race? I wonder if a growing popularity will have any affect on ticket pricing or availability. Somebody's gonna be building some more grandstands.

Yes, the prices will go up because they are more in demand.

So NASCAR's army of PR people can't get the media to report their stuff? Really? What about the Racing Magazines/Tabloids/etc? Not enough people buy them?

Or is that NASCAR just does not like the content of the reports? Guess they will have to buy the country's main newspaper groups.

You know what, we don't get any coverage on our local new here on the west coast.
But, I'll tell you what, California Speedway is always sold out.
