NASCAR needs some rivalries to spice up the action

We've already got a good one in 2017...Kyle Busch vs. Goodyear.

IDK what happened with Kyle yesterday but he is due to go on a tear at anytime now. With a couple of wins in the last 30 you know he is getting antsy and cranky.

I guess it depends on how you define a rivalry as if it means drivers and teams trash talking or getting into on and off track altercations things are tame. I think there are good rivalries with established drivers and I think there could be some great competition between guys like Elliott, Blaney, Larson and Jones. I expect all of them to win this year.

Car was terrible. Don't know about a tear (I hope), but antsy and cranky to the max. Love it when he is like this. Heading to his home track on a mission.

I believe that social media is a huge deterrent to drivers expressing acute displeasure with other drivers. Whenever they do so, they get skewered on social media in the nastiest way imaginable. And no one wants that out there to be monitored by current or prospective sponsors.

IMO the two overriding lessons from social media are... (a) If you are my favorite driver, whatever you do or say is OK, but (b) If you're anyone else, I demand plain vanilla or I will hate you.

I am hopeful that the revised championship format will ramp up tension throughout the year. The regular season is much more important now. There is greater incentive to fight for top results every week. We'll see...

Monster execs want rivalries. To the point that drivers have been spoken to individually and encouraged to let their emotions fly.

However...drivers still have their own team/PSA sponsors to worry about. What's good for Monster might not be good for M&Ms. But from a series standpoint, we won't see as many drivers "called to the hauler post race" so to speak, unless it's to get a high five and begin to script the sequel.

Danica Vs. Joey.

He made her nervous on sunday...maybe she remembers being chopped the other year?

^monster would have loved to have been the series sponsor in matt vs brad and matt vs joey battle

I'm not interested in any reality TV. Drivers will confront each other as needed due to specific instances. There is no need to orchestrate anything.
Exactly.

On the odd occasion that punches or a helmet are thrown, the internet melts down. Some people seem to want what they want until they get it.

Oh man, there would never be any need to orchestrate anything. If every single sponsor decided "ok guys, anything goes" there would be multiple fights per race. I don't think punches or helmet throws piss off many fans in a vacuum. I think an overwhelming majority love that kind of stuff. UNLESS...and this is a big unless...a driver they hate throws a punch or helmet. Especially directed at a driver they like, THEN all of a sudden he's classless, and there's no room for that kind of behavior, and he should be suspended, and blah blah blah BS BS BS...

Man, I was hoping she would tap him into the wall at Atlanta. But she's a clean driver, and when it comes dumping drivers she's not good at it.:lol2:

It sounds like what Monster wants is more antagonism between the drivers as opposed to on track rivalries. I know a lot of people like the pushing, shoving and name calling but it normally makes the participants seem idiotic and the series low brow.

I agree as the orchestrated BS just brings the series down to tawdry reality crap. Way back when Nascar used to park drivers for "rough driving" and it was normally for 5 laps or so but sometimes for the entire race but now it doesn't seem to matter unless you pull a Kenseth on JLo and even a 2 race suspension was a slap on the wrist.

Yes it needs to be spontaneous, passionate, so raw, and blissful with natural Lov.... I mean hate.

Skirmishes in Nascar are more like comedy routines as I have seen more action amongst Grade 3 students at recess. For the sake of embarrassment that sort of thing should be banned.

I am glad the sponsors are able to prevent the scenario you suggested as it would be a laughingstock.

That incident with her and Gilligan still makes me chuckle....."I'm a gonna gitya".....well maybe not.

^ Skoal, you should check out F1. The required decorum there is more in line with what you seem to believe is proper. Most of us prefer it a bit more raw.

I have heard Chase totally trash his performance in the past and I like that he has standards, goals and expectations and isn't content to ride ride around and collect a check.

And if the driving thing doesn't work out (I know, I know) he did a solid job in the booth.
