NASCAR on ESPN

Was it just me, or did the screen they had during qualifying, look "messy" and kind of "congested?" It was good to see Dr. Jerry back doing what he does best, pit interviews. As far as the quality of the booth... it was basically adequate. Jarrett and Petree are just OK, though to me they come across as a bit boring. Marty Reid seemed... distracted? Exp: During Regan Smith's qualification, Reid was telling us how close Smith was to being a top ten qualifier, yet the screen was showing him consistently running 15th-19th times?

But, all things considered, with the exception of Mike Joy's talent, it was head and shoulders above the quality FOX gives us.

I think ESPN's had the best coverage this year. I did not like Adam Alexander on TNT but fortunately, Wally and KP made up for what he didn't offer in the booth. Marty Reid and Dale Jarrett are awesome and Dr. Punch is the best pit reporter in NASCAR.

We seem to agree 100% EXcept for Jarrett and Reid. That's OK though; that's why they produce cars in different colours, personal tastes.

On Adam Alexander... Bill Weber had a personality I detested (his overly dramatic segues to the next shot drove me up a wall) while Alexander seemed to be totally lacking in anything resembling a personality, IMNSVHO, of course.

I agree. I though Ralph Shaheen was great last year, and TNT really seemed to take a step back without him in the booth. I've liked ESPN the least since they came back, but we'll see how it is this time.

They've been hyping this race as a major event all week, and now they're embarrased about the place being half empty.

I agree. I thought Kyle Petty and Wally Dallenbach saved the TNT broadcasts this year. Adam Alexnader was a huge disappointment.

Yeah, I was shocked when I got home after church to watch and thought they were replaying practice from Friday. Wow how the Mighty Brickyard has fallen. I don't blame people, looks look every seat in the house has a obstructed view. Better to watch on T.V.

No matter how they try to promote the Brickyard as having some sort of real tradition it just doesn't have it.

People only go the Indy 500 because it's tradition. It's a horrible place to watch a race, I went to the 2009 Indy 500 and I would never go again. It was also soooo hot when I went, I couldn't imagine sitting there yesterday in the heat.

agreed. a friend on FB/twitter went to indy for her first race, I was like "whyyy?". You see less there, than you do at daytona/dega.

I couldn't agree more with this statement.

I also agree....Just because there is a race at indy makes it special? Whatever...If it was so special 1/2 the seats wouldn't be empty

It certainly has it's open wheel tradition, that can't be disputed. NASCAR @ Indy, not so much. Sure it was a big deal to many when it first moved there. IMO, for NASCAR, it's just another track. It's within my driving range, as far as attending races goes. Even so, I'd still rather attend Bristol, Martinsville, Richmond, Dover & Pocono, yes Pocono, before going to Indy.

I have a feeling that a Cup race in Kentucky would suck away even more fans from Indy.

Indy...one of the big races for NASCAR? Y'all remember that most of those guys out there racing now have always had this track to race on and also, very, very few of them are what we used to call "good old boys" from the south. I remembers a few years ago when some of the drivers considered Indy to be the top race in the series, while the real "good old boys" continued to see the importance of Daytona. I think that today Indy continues to be a big deal for two reasons, it's storied past of course, and the money it gives out.

Id rather see the Cup race at ORP to be honest. That race routinely puts the Brickyard 400 to shame.

don't know where you sit but the seats i HAD (note gave them up due to crappy racin) at Daga you could see the whole track even if they did look like matchbox cars goin into 3
