NASCAR on the Radio

I know very little about NASCAR on the radio except that the races are either broadcast through PRN or MRN and I wondered how it worked. Is there a history of NASCAR's involvement with each "network"? Do they split the year like TV coverage? Does it depend on where the races are? Although I typically watch the races, it seems that when I usually catch the radio broadcasts I hear MRN broadcasts which I've liked. I wasn't as impressed with PRN's last night but it may have just been last nights broadcast and not the network in general. Anyway, I guess i was just looking for some background info and other's opinions. Thanks :)

MRN is owned by NASCAR/ ISC, PRN is owned by SMI. PRN will broadcast the races at SMI tracks and MRN does the rest of the tracks.

I believe the last to make the switch from MRN to PRN was Bristol. When the contract with MRN was over, Smitty made the switch.

Also, MRN nor PRN broadcasts the Brickyard 400. That is done with Tony George's broadcasting network, which also does the Indy 500.

When PRN first made it's way into the races, I didn't care for it. But they have come a long way these days and I think they are now on an even par with MRN. One thing about both networks is that they do a very good job.

I bought a set of the Nextel headphones that have a AM/FM radio built in. I wore them when I was at the race this weekend. They did I great job of keeping my ears warm but I guess the PRN broadcast has a time delay so they would be talking about a lap behind the actual ontrack action.

Well worth the $13 investment. :beerbang:

I have Trackpass PitCommand 2.0

If I'm not near a TV, I'll flip on to WFLS - They're best music comes on Sunday afternoons 1-5pm baby :beerbang:

I'll be listening to WFLS next year through all the ESPN and FOX races - I'll only watch TNT now.
