NASCAR on TNT

Digger

TNT's geared up. They're using the same graphics and music package as a year ago and just released the new Hinder NASCAR on TNT music video. :beerbang:

Good riddance FOX, and Digger. NASCAR's back where it belongs, a good network with real coverage. :)

Now let's see how long you think this way.

Seriously!! I seem to remember being really frustrated with them when the races started on TNT since it seemed like it was 3 min. of racing... commercial.... 3 min. of racing.... commercial........... commercial...commercial... 3 min. of racing ..................... commercials!

I was looking foward to them going to ESPN until they messed up their schedule. At least we won't have to listen to Rusty during Cup races.

Thanks Andy looks like that might be interesting. I will check it out.

Agreed. People complain about DW and can't wait for something else. TNT comes along and they complain about Bill Weber and can't wait for ESPN. They come along and people hate Punch, Rusty, Brad, and everyone else.

Andy, just wait until see TNT's NASCAR Buddy. That thing might make Digger look great. :D

I'm no fan of Bill Weber, but I can deal with him. I don't know why everyone else whines about him endlessly, he's not that bad. Not as bad as the ESPN crew for sure.

if you people want to complain about commentators...

go watch paul page call an nhra race.

So that is where they have put Page. He was good when he was the voice of the Indianapolis 500 for TV, but when he and Bobby Unser tried to do NASCAR, they just couldn't take themselves out of the open wheeled cars. I can only imagine how he does drag racing.

Or, (shudder) watch an old tape of a TNN race with Eli Gold.
What's wrong with Eli?

I have a ton of old tapes from his days at MRN. Him and Allen were AWESOME in the booth. They set the bar for the kind of coverage I expect from the TV networks.

I just don't know why ESPN doesn't promote Allen to the booth and Jerry to pit road already. Is there a substantial pay decrease for Jerry if they do that? I can't imagine so because he also does college football and basketball. :idunno:

Jerry Punch is very loyal to ABC and ESPN. When ESPN lost their rights to broadcast the races, everyone, with the exception Punch, left to go to the other networks. Jerry said that they have been very good to him and he didn't see any reason to leave them. I don't know all the particulars, but it seems to me that Allen requested to do the pit work, and Jerry, having done the booth work before, was the perfect candidate for that job. I always liked Jerry in the pits from way back. It even was a sort of Godsend when Rusty rolled his car at Bristol one year. Jerry was the first one on the scene, and as a doctor, he knew what to do right away.

As for Allen, I like him better on the radio than on TV, but that's just my opinion. Liked Eli as well, but hell, I really liked Larry Neuber too.

The best crew EVER, as far as I'm concerned, was Steve Jenkins, Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett in the booth, with Jerry Punch in the pits.

Jerry Punch was awesome in the pits.

The pits are another ESPN downfall. I've NEVER liked Dave Burns. Massaro doesn't have a clue. Jamie Little's just a pretty face. Shannon's the only one that's good in the pits. :idunno:

ESPN's gotten better this year, but they still have a horrible production crew.

Granted, I havent watched any of it yet, but does TNT really need 1 and 1/2 hours of pre-race each weekend?
"NASCAR on TNT Live!" is an hour and then "Countdown" is another 1/2 hour.

OK, I finally got around to watching the video. Its horrible. They only showed a close up of the #48 or Jimmie 6 times. Tony was the 2nd most shown with 4. As to the racing action it was either follow the leader or a wreck fest. Not much side to side racing. And, rather than showing me the band, heck I'd rather then show the girls at the fence more...

I disagree. She's very well informed and has raced herself, recently winning a celebrity race that included several regular competitors. My favorite pit commentator is Dick Bergerren.

I'm watching -- no, TRYING to watch the pre-race on TNT ---- this has to be the most disjointed show I've ever seen. There is no continuity, no flow to the program.

And why on earth are the hosts in jackets out in the heat?

The Allison story has been told before and in greater detail elsewhere, but it's nice to be reminded of where we came from occasionaly. I agree that the production needs a little fine tuning.

Skipped everything until just now, nearly 2:00 ET to watch the race. These pre-race programs all seem to be the same. Maybe when the "chase" arrives, they will have something to talk about. Til then, it's all the same. Now, let's race. :beerbang:

Is it me or is TNT using a low volume output? My TV's up to volume 46..

wow..baseball commentation...is this weekend "mess up the sound" weekend? first nhra, then n'wide/irl, now cup...

I hope Andy is enjoying his favorite network.
I didn't watch prerace, just countdown. It clearly states Prerace, Countdown and the nwhen the race starts. If you don't want to watch the prerace shows, don't watch it.

So, TNT's sound is effed up. ESPN's sound was effed up all day yesterday in every race. :idunno:

From what I've seen so far, TNT's been VERY informative. I like how they actually use their cut away car and show us something useful instead of show us the same thing every week about the window net and the roll cage.

And they're actually showing us on-track action.

Okay, only thing I can hear are the DirecTV PPV ads. But, that's all around on my TV, I can't hear a damn thing on CNN either.

OK, just started watching...what did I miss so far??
btw, my sound seems fine :idunno:

I'm digging this racebuddy thing.

It was a pain to sync Buddy with the TV. I wish the Pit Road camera would follow the action on the track more and not show the guys standing around the pits. The RoboCam on the backstretch needs to be mounted higher to cover more of the track. And I muted the sound on Buddy.

:(

Wild Thing just crashed himself by doing something titanically stupid. :D
