VERSUS today announced a multi-year deal with NASCAR to air a fast-paced, up-close HD look at the 12 drivers competing in NASCAR’s 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup. The weekly, half-hour series titled Quest for the NASCAR Sprint Cup will air on VERSUS on Tuesday nights at 11 p.m. ET, beginning September 22, and will air each week until the conclusion of the 2009 NASCAR playoff season.

Quest for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, an adrenaline-filled show that offers motorsports fans stunning race footage with an intimate behind-the-scenes perspective, is a milestone in HD sports programming and was honored with a Sports Emmy® Award for “Outstanding Live Event Turnaround” in 2008. VERSUS and NASCAR will also partner on additional programming opportunities which will be announced when details become available.

Well that ****ing sucks since Direct TV doesn't get versus anymore because Comcast, which owns VS, raised the price of its piece of crap network and Direct refuses to pay that increase. I'm really going to loose it when the NHL season starts up, VS airs most of the NHL regular season games.

Once again, Versus doesn't have any programming I'm dying to watch.

I fail to see how this show is any different than anything offered on SPEED, EPSN, etc. If they showed classic NASCAR races, then I might be pissed about DirecTV not airing the channel anymore.

But then I'd slap myself, come to my senses, and remember that Versus is owned by Crapcast. Who aren't worth a dime of my money.

Maybe Versus is posturing itself to cover NASCAR races in the future.

I'm gonna lose it because they air the season opener for the Washington Capitals in Boston! :windows::windows:

We don't need a warning for that.We know that will happen.

Oh I forgot to add, interspersed with the hockey and race complaining will be complaints about the weather. Too wet, too sunny, too hot, too cold, too windy, something. :D

Having races go to Versus would kill the sport. Not because their coverage is bad(I actually think Versus does quite well with live coverage, football especially), but it simply isnt in enough homes.

Maybe that's the point. They put something on that attracts viewers who worry the bull snot out of their provider until they offer Vs. What do they have now as an attraction, hockey (and no one watches hockey on TV) and WEC. And while WEC has a decent following it is still a niche market.

NASCAR would need to have a major downturn in popularity to resort to airing on Versus.

Right now, the NASCAR Sprint Cup is the second highest rated sports series in the US behind only the NFL. Plus, 17 of the world's top-20 most attended sporting events are NASCAR races.

That's hardly a series that's dying for TV coverage. In fact, if one of the current broadcasters lost broadcast rights for whatever reason, there are plenty of other stations that would be more than willing to pick up the schedule.

NASCAR is not dumb enough to limit coverage of their top series to a channel that's not carried on the nation's largest TV service provider. DirecTV dropping Versus hurts Versus far more than it does DirecTV.

Versus has been trying to fill airtime for a while. Rodeos and fishing tournaments just aren't exciting.

That's pretty much how ESPN started way back when. They also showed wrasslin'. How did that work out for them, someone remind me?

ESPN was also an original idea at the time. Now we have ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPNU, ESPN The Ocho, SPEED, CSN, FOX Sports Net, SUN, NBCUSports, CBS College Sports. Is there really room for Versus with all that out there? I mean, if Versus aired more sports and less bull**** (no pun intended:D), they might become relevant.

At best Versus could hope to fill the NASCAR niche that SPEED currently does(truck races, qualifying, CW series), although that in and of itself would be stupid on NASCAR's part as SPEED is a standard channel available in pretty much any package, but also broadcasts in Canada.

In order for any network to get into more homes, they need to carry something people want to see. That's how Fox did it when they got the NFL from CBS in 1993 or 1994. Maybe Versus is trying to go that direction.

I think this is their way to get DirecTV back to carrying their channel.

Comcrap didn't carry FX. When the Winston Cup races went on FX, they were bombarded with calls to pick up and carry FX. It was moved to basic cable the night of the 2001 Spring Richmond NWCS race. :D

I guess I'll have to miss the games and IndyCar races because I ain't switching back to Comcrap.

Exactly how I feel. I can't begin to describe my hatred for comcast over the b.s. I went through with them when I lived in my last house. I could literally write a book on it. I have never had so many problems with a billing, customer service or help desk department of a buisness/service in my entire life. It got to the point that when everything was done and some door to door butthole of theirs came by, I would slam the door in his face as soon as he mentioned comcast. I would stop watching TV all together if it were not for satallite.

Kind of the same thing I went through. I live in the country and do not have access to cable. I had Dish for many years and was pretty happy with their service. They went HD and I asked for equipment to match my TV and they wanted mucho dollars. I switched to Direct and my bill went through the roof.

Then I switched to Verizon FiOS and I pay $100 for 20 meg of bandwidth, HD TV with a Bazillion channels and our home phone with no long distance.

Isn't directv a big sponsor of nascar. You wonder if something isnt being worked out right now some where because why would they make a deal to put on a show thats aired on a channel that their big tv sponsor doesnt even air.

And Andy the bull riding stuff is pretty cool if you give it a chance man. Them guys are hard core and raw no tv camera shows like you complain about all the drivers doing.
