NASCAR Pick 'Em 2023 - Kansas

Driver pick submittal deadline: Sunday, September 10th, 2:00 p.m. Eastern time.

As the 2023 season winds down, a quick recap of how the game's championship is determined followed by a nearly up to date (thru race #24) "Tie-Breaker and Awards" table. In races #25 thru #27, only @LibertyU24 and @Blaze had a first place finishing pick.

14 - After the 36th and final points-paying race, the game's championship will be awarded to the player with the fewest total points, that is, the player whose driver picks over the course of the season had the best average finishing position.

15 - In the event of a points tie among two or more players atop the leader board at season's end, then the game's championship will be awarded to the player (among those players) that had the most first place picks.

16 - In the event of a points tie, and a tie for most first place picks, among two or more players atop the leader board at season's end, then the game's championship will be awarded to the player (among those players) that had the most top five picks.

17 - In the event of a points tie, and a tie for most first place picks and top five picks, among two or more players atop the leader board at season's end, then the game's championship will be awarded to the player (among those players) that had the most top ten picks.

Am I mistaken or is the value of The Value Pick Award equal to the value of The Wiping Up The Rear Award?

It is, however, easier to clean up afterward, so it’s got that going.

Correct, they're both equally meaningless when it comes to determining the championship.

Personally, I've always found a "Wiping Up the Rear" trophy placed on the back of the toilet to be a great conversation starter.

Also, the thought behind the single page "Drivers Used" spreadsheet is that it makes it easier for players battling for position to see the drivers that their competitors have remaining.

The NASCAR Pick 'Em Game Rules For Dummies reads like this:

For each and every points-paying NASCAR Cup Series race, each player selects a driver expected to have a relatively good finishing position in that race.

A particular driver may be used as a player's pick for one, and only one, race during the course of the season.

Game points are awarded based upon the finishing position of the player's pick in that race.

1st place finish = 1 point . . . . 40th place finish = 40 points, with all finishes in between awarded appropriately.

At season's end the game's championship is awarded to the player that has the fewest total points after the 36th and final points race.

Wow, this edition of the value pick of the week award is tough to choose. There weren't many surprising finishes & no-one took Erik Jones. With that said, I'll nominate Joey Logano, who was chosen by @Jorge De Guzman & @hmmm298. Logano finished 5th on a car that probably didn't have top 10 speed.

Let's go! I finally pick the winner, first time this year. I knew Reddick was going to have a chance at the win when he took the inside line on that last restart.

To be fair, after Loganos trouble at Darlington last week he is a guy or maybe even THE guy you Always count on to rebound the next week after a bad race in the playoffs. It wasn’t a bit of a surprise. He’s a 2 time champ for a reason.

To add more context,
Truex for example is more of a momentum driver imo. Logano is just clutch. This could be the difference between him moving to the next round, and I know he recognized that even though he didn’t really have to car.

And honestly I’ve always hated Penske and him but Joey is starting to really grow on me. I think it’s more just respect for his ability, as he is becoming an all time driver right before our eyes. Like Gordon for example grew on me in his later years

Well, I had to use Austin Dillon sometime, and of course he bites me in the arse as usual. Hopeful to just hang in for a top 10 or slightly better finish at this point.

Congratulations to @RayinTX and @JJ_14 for taking the "Highest Finishing Pick" award following the first place finish of their pick, Tyler Reddick, in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.

In picking the race winner, @RayinTX only solidified his spot atop of the standings (for the sixth consecutive race) although @Head423 and @FLRacingFan, both with top ten picks, remained well with striking distance of his perch.

The top eleven players in the standings are within 87 points of the top spot with eight races remaining meaning that, well, you do the math. How each of those players uses his remaining drivers should be fun to watch.

The "Most Upward Movement" award went to @REBS31 who gained fours spots with his pick of the first loser, Denny Hamlin.

In an example of how competitive those in the middle of the standings have become, the "Slipping & Sliding" award was taken by @DC76, loser of three spots, even though his pick, Alex Bowman, managed a top ten finish.

After two consecutive races when several players came "close, but no cigar" to taking the "Wiping Up the Rear" award, the last place finish by Martin Truex Jr. enabled @Truex_rox and @olwhatshisname to take possession of the legendary award.

It seems that partly due to most players having picked a quality driver for the race (no picks for third place finisher Erik Jones), the "Value Pick of the Week" award went to a driver in contention for the championship, Joey Logano, picked by @hmmm298 and @Jorge De Guzman.

@pjmolo, I just noticed what could be a slight error in the standings. @Greg appears tied for 11th place even though he has 20 less points than the other two. It's something insignificant but thought I'd let you know.

The point totals are right, it's just that @Greg's 442 total was read as 422 by the standings discombobulator.
Which means that he didn't gain two spots in the standings (from 13th to 11th) but remains in 13th.
