Set limits: Cup – 1 set for practice, 1 set for qualifying and 7 sets for the race (6 race sets plus 1 set transferred from qualifying)

Tire Codes: Left-side — D-5184; Right-side — D-5248

Tire Circumference: Left-side — 2,263 mm (89.09 in.); Right-side — 2,281 mm (89.80 in.)

Minimum Recommended Inflation: Left Front — 20 psi; Left Rear — 22 psi; Right Front — 40 psi; Right Rear — 38 psi

Notes – Cup teams on different tire set-up at Pocono this year: Being on 18-inch bead diameter tires, NASCAR Cup teams will run a different tire set-up than those in the NASCAR Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series at Pocono this weekend . . . Cup teams are on different left- and right-side tire codes than they ran at Pocono last season, with compound changes on both sides of the car to introduce more tire wear and lap-time fall-off . . . Cup teams have already run this same left-side tire code at Las Vegas, Homestead, Darlington, Texas, Kansas and Nashville this season . . . these teams first ran this right-side tire code at Indianapolis last season . . . with this 18-inch tire, and its lower profile sidewall, NASCAR Cup cars do not run inner liners in any of their tires.

Goodyear quote – Stu Grant, Goodyear’s general manager of global race tires: “Pocono is perhaps the most unique track we have on the NASCAR circuit. With three distinct corners and straightaways, teams face a choice of setting up their cars where they feel they can make the most time. We have a new tire set-up for the Cup cars this year, one with more grip and more fall-off, which should make for a great race for the fans.”
 
Optimizing the chassis setup at this place is a tall order.

The three corners at Pocono Raceway are not the same. They are intentionally designed to be different, each modeled after a turn from a different racetrack. Turn 1 is based on Trenton Speedway, Turn 2 on Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Turn 3 on the Milwaukee Mile. This unique design gives Pocono its nickname, "The Tricky Triangle".
