Nascar Pocono Raceway Pre-Race Thread

Like a road course you are only going to see a section fully, you'll be able to see other spots but not as easy.
OMG....We went to the Glen in 2017 and chose "best available" seats which was high up by the start/finish line and all we could see was the cars going by us in a straight line. Will never sit there again if we go back. There are grandstands that face the cars as they go into 1 that look like they would be cool for that perspective plus I think you'd be able to see way more of the track.

Why I like the Charlotte roval - it may be a compromise road course but you can see the whole thing. The Rolex 24 is on my To Do list for the same reason. I'll be watching IndyCar at Road America and IMSA at Watkins Glen today, two courses I love on TV but doubt I'll ever attend.

They said the same thing about stadium moto cross back in the day. The fan interest blew that nonsense out of the water. The Roval is one of racings works of art and a brilliant use of space IMO. Great for the fans, hardly a bad seat in the house and of course they continue to make it better.

I've long suspected those people who say they prefer ovals over road / street courses is because they can see everything at an oval. I can understand that but why choose when you can have it all? If a track with two dates has an infield section, I'd like to them to use it for one of their dates. At Pocono in particular, there are so many infield routes that are closer to the grandstands than the tunnel turn.

Road courses are best when you can wander around and see different spots

That's an advantage for longer endurance events. You can have plenty of time to appreciate each vantage point. The viewing strategy is a lot like attending a golf tournament. Pace yourself throughout the day, accept you're not going to see everything, move around periodically, and watch the recording when you get home.

I think it's the right call and the way it should be when they are having more than one car on the track at a time qualify on ovals.

Why should a guy be basically penalized because something happened on track out of his control when everyone else went out on stickers?
That is one of the things I don't like about Nhra qualifying. If the car you are running against crosses the centerline and takes out one of the timing cones neither car will get a time and no rerun for the car that didn't do anything wrong.
