NASCAR has announced a press conference to be held on December 3, 2004 at their headquarters in Daytona Beach, FL. Rumored to be discussed is the re-alignment of the 2005 season, as well as the "tweaks" for next year's Chase For The Championship.
By the miracle of modern technology, and aided by the fact that my fourth cousin-in-law twice removed works for the Daytona Beach Kinko's, I have stumbled across bits and pieces of the agenda for this press conference, and am proud to provide a racing-forums exclusive scoop!
* The 2005 Chase For The Championship will remain a ten race shootout, with the top nine drivers in the points being automatically granted a spot in the Chase. The tenth driver will be either the tenth place driver in points, or Dale junior if necessary.
* All ten races in next season's Chase will be held at Talladega Motor Speedway.
* All Roush Racing drivers will be required to tow a fully loaded dump truck behind their cars during the races. Further, all pitstops for Roush drivers will be held at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. NASCAR regrets the inconvenience this places on some drivers, but we must move forward into the new century, and some sacrifices must be made in the name of ratings and fan satisfaction. We here at NASCAR feel certain that these minor changes to the structure of the Chase will yield the results both we and our legion of faithful Bud drinking Drakkar Noir wearing fans so desperately long to see.
