FORT WORTH, Texas - NASCAR officials put the cars of several Nextel Cup teams on the sanctioning body's chassis dyno machine after the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway Sunday.

The Chevrolets of race winner Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports), Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s Martin Truex Jr., Hendrick's Kyle Busch, Joe Gibbs Racing's Tony Stewart, Richard Childress Racing's Jeff Burton and JGR's J.J. Yeley, the Fords of Roush Fenway Racing's Matt Kenseth and Robert Yates Racing's Ricky Rudd, the Dodges of Penske Racing's Ryan Newman and Gillett Evernham Motorsports' Kasey Kahne and the Toyotas of Team Red Bull's Brian Vickers and Bill Davis Racing's Dave Blaney took turns on the machine following the race.

Dyno?

Little late in the season for that. Might change things for next year.Everyone just needs to learn how to build cars like HMS that handle lousy all day and with a little fine tuning during a pit stop come back to blow everyones doors off.

This wasn't a COT race (I think), but it doesn't matter. NASCAR puts cars on the dyno after every race.

NASCAR confiscates 11 Engines
By Lee Spencer, Foxsports.com

FORT WORTH, Texas — NASCAR selected 11 cars to run on the engine dyno following Sunday night's race.

The cars registered numbers that were quite close. Included were: the No. 12 Dodge (781hp), No. 48 Chevrolet (784hp — a number recorded following his postrace burnout), No. 17 Ford (788hp), No. 1 (786hp) Chevrolet, No. 20 Chevrolet (781hp), No. 31 Chevrolet (788hp), No. 9 Dodge (784hp), No. 88 Ford (780hp), No. 83 Toyota (783hp), No. 22 Toyota (788hp), No. 24 Chevrolet (777hp). NASCAR confiscated the engines from the cars and will conduct further examinations at the Research & Development Center in Concord, N.C

What dif would Jimmie's burnout make? It's all brake.

All night running wide open, and 30 seconds of revving the engine is going to make a dif? pft.

Also, don't these guys kinda need those engines for next week?

Why do they do that? Does it really matter what hp they have after a race? I thaught the limit was 800hp.

The reason they dyno the enigines is for equality. If there is a +-5% difference across the board for different manufactures, they will change rules. IE if toyota motors were only hitting 750 HP, NASCAR would allow them to use an alternate intake or cylinder head design, where they normally wouldn't.

They're running the engine over max RPM. Do that long enough and it will break a valve, piston, or cam and then poof.

That's some serious HP they are cranking out. I'd like to know what Toyota's numbers were at the first of the season.

Uh yeah... I thought they DID need them. Oh well, maybe they have to study Jimmie's for a while to see why he's been so damn good. :lol2:

I might blow a gasket in the next two weeks if something doesn't change. Wait until Daytona? I don't know if I'll be recuperated by then. LOL :p

So of the engines listed Jeff had the least Hp. Interesting...
Must be something to this thing called driving ability...

They are red lining the motor. Burnouts are really hard on the motors, rearends, and everything else.

They tear down the motors after ever race, so they more then likly wont run the same motor two races in a row. But doing a burn out can cost more money and more work to be done.

After JR won his 1st race he did a burn out and SR sent him a bill for the motor work.

Jeff, when asked about the difference in the horsepower between his and Jimmie's engines said that as the car owner of the #48 they were looking at several things for the last two races of the chase. If they could get it by Nascar inspection to look for one of these on Jimmie's car at Phoenix.

If that weren't allowed or didn't make a difference in the finishes they would look to either give him a 10 gallon fuel tank or put a brick under the accelerator.
As long as there was hope for the Drive for 5 Jeff said he would do anything possible for his fans. Both of them...
