NASCAR reaction to ABC's East Coast blackout

don't blame ABC

Be serious folks Nascar doesn't even come close to NFL ratings plus the race was available on ESPN 2. Nascar should have an earlier green flag and keep it away from Primetime or keep it on a Saturday Night.

If you really are a race fan ESPN delivers so much more than Fox ever did.

Nascar said it best. "I could understand if the president was speaking or there was some serious news that need to get out, but americas funniest home videos?"

I dont know how many times I can watch some kid kick his dad in the nuts. haha

gearhead, ESPN isn't avaliable to people without cable. And ESPN2 isn't avaliable to everyone with cable.

NBC had no problem negotiating with the NFL to start a game 30 minutes late to show the conclusion of a race. Why can't ABC put off TAPED programming (that nobody watches since 1995 when they got rid of Bob Saget - Andy) for a race.

There are a lot of rumors going around right now, and I reiterate (sp?) they are rumors, that this was the last straw and NASCAR might pull the plug on ESPN and (if possible) give FOX and TNT the entire season. I don't know how that would work out, but a lot of people are pissed off because your network, Disney, keeps screwing up time and time again.

If you really are a race fan ESPN delivers so much more than Fox ever did.

Do you work for Disney? Can you do me a favor and get me free Miley Cyrus concert tickets? My cousin wants to go really bad. TIA.

I liked the old espn coverage with Benny and Bob Jenkins, but come on the coverage now is horible.

I dont have a probably with the announcers its just they spend to much time showing off the cut away car and showing a replay for every pass that happend it makes it very hard to follow. There was a part of the race the other day they didnt let the scoring tracker get to 43rd spot for almost 50 laps. I couldnt even tell who was on the lead lap at one point because they showed it at the restart and then they didnt show it again till about 20 cars got put a lap down.

This quote was hilarious in the first article..

I knew we were in trouble when I looked at the monitor and saw a monkey scratching its butt," one team member said after Johnson's victory. :XXROFL:

ESPN and ABC have a history of this kind of stuff with the IRL. They would delay races because of golf. That is not cool.

There was one IRL race they drove me kahootz. They said abc, then they said ESPN Classic, then they said ESPN2, then they said Green flagf on ESPN and 1/3 of the race complete it finally made it's way to ABC.

IndyCar has a sweet TV deal now with Versus. Y'all will be better served over there.

Fox won't take the entire season because of MLB and the NFL. TNT/NBC might, but they are the only option for week-to-week coverage without dumping it to VERSUS or SPEED.

:bsflag:

Don't forget, there are two other major broadcast outlets: The CW (formerly The WB, owned by CBS and Warner Bros.) and myNetworkTV (formerly UPN, owned by NewsCorp aka FOX)

Both of those networks have terrible ratings. Doubtful, but what if CBS or FOX does something brash and takes NASCAR and moves the Chase there.

myNetworkTV has affiliattes in 96% of the country (more than ESPN2 and ESPN Classic) that puts them on the air (not cable) whereas ESPN Classic isn't avaliable to 96% of cable customers.

The CW, on the other hand, is in serious trouble. Warner and Viacom will both likely abandon the venture if ratings don't improve. Getting NASCAR on The CW would have a huge impact - and a perfect platform to hype other television shows they air which is different from the typical boring "reality" TV-_- FOX airs 6 nights a week.

And, just for fun - TNT's avaliable to more viewers than ESPN2 and ESPN Classic. (not as many as ESPN but more than ESPN's other networks)

BAAAAHHHHAAAA

Good Luck getting away from ESPN and as long as Nascar collects to 280 million a year from ESPN they'll do what ever they say. Sorry you missed the end, Jimmie won and most of the remaining laps were under caution so you didn't miss much.

For all you people who don't get cable or satl, make sure you get your convertor boxes for the Digital TV conversion. If you don't have ESPN 2 where do you watch it on Speed and TNT ?

Oh, and one more thing America's Funniest Home Videos is hilarious and Bob Saget is a total HACK !

Actually, back in 2001, I was able to pick up TBS and TNT over the air with my highly amplified custom-built antenna. :D You'll be AMAZED what you can do with a Craftsman wrench.

Eff the converter boxes - you can't buy antennas now anyways so the converter box is useless to me I'll just have to suck it up and get Directv  since the government is blackmailing me into getting cable or satellite.

Incorrect. Brian France has no problem giving up the contract and paying a settlement since he'll get it back from any other network that decides to pick up NASCAR. Keep in mind, NASCAR doesn't care what ESPN thinks - they just collect the money. But when they see AFV pop up on the jumboscreen, they care.

It's just rumor - but if these rumors are true, "NASCAR on ESPN" is gone and they'll be able to cover their precious NBA games, bowling tournaments, poker matches and "Regional Junior High School Chess Club Tournaments from Idaho presented by Tylenoil PM". :D

Now now now, don't forget tha National Spelling Bee!

National Spelling Bee?

That's on ABC.

ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPN Deportes, ESPNU, ESPN.News, ESPN360 and ESPN8 The Ocho have to air the State spelling bees before we can get that far - and do so in playoffs no less. :D

"The Nebraska State Junior Elementary Spelling Bee presented by Scholastic on ESPN is sponsored to you in part by Cheerios." :)

"Coming up next on ESPN on ABC, the National Junior Go-Fish Tournament presented by Pepperidge Farm Goldfish. Brent, it's all yours." ... "You are looking liiiive at Three Oaks Community Park in Fort Myers, Florida. Today, 26 of the best go-fish players in the world face off in a do-or-die tournament of epic poportions." ...... "What's he doing? Oh, he reaches his hand across the table and picks up a card, can't tell what he needs but that adds a card to the stack and could cost him the game!!!!!!1:eek:"

LOL, i never realized that there really are 8 ESPN's. Maybe we need ESPN Neuf?

The CW and others are not good options. When a major sporting series teams up with a newtork, they look for good programming so they can advertise their product during other shows and also look for quality, high definition programming. Not all CW stations are HD and some that are in HD aren't available on every cable and satellite system.

I'd like to see them flip-flop ESPN and TNT. Let ESPN have that summer series and let TNT have the end of the season. Maybe they could get NBC interested again. The big reason they got ESPN interested was ESPN carrying the Nationwide series. Fox wasn't interested in covering their half and I'm not sure if anyone other than ESPN or Speed is interested in that series.

Only the final hours of the final night. All the prelims are on ESPN...have been for years. Even the final was on ESPN until last year or maybe 2 years ago. And they also show the raplays of the final on ESPN. In fact, here's the broadcast schedule from this past year.

The Quarterfinals air live on ESPN360.com from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, May 29.

The Semifinals air live on ESPN from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, May 30.

The Championship Finals air live on ABC from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, May 30.

What is MyNetworkTV?
FOX v2.

Basically, if you look at your local FOX station, they call themselves myfox(whatever). Here, it's myFOX Washington. This is sort of their replacement network. It mostly is used for advertising purposes and for "alternative" programming. More or less, they use this network to grab the 18-25 demographic with "hip" programming that still sucks azz.

"The CW" is a merger of "UPN" (we all know what a stellar channel that was:rolleyes:) and The WB (which I actually liked).

LOL, great, what we need are channels that most haven't heard of to televise Nascar.

Well, until we upgraded to digital cable, we didn't get SPEED, ESPNC, ESPNN or whatever the heck they all are. Oh yeah, and my internet provider does grace us with ESPN 360. Whoopie de do!!!!!

I think it's totally ridiculous that I have to adjust my timers every week to record 2 shows on CBS just because I never know if football and 60 minutes are going to run late to make sure I get all of The Amazing Race.

There's no excuse for them breaking away for a filler show like Funniest Home Videos before prime time. If I have to wait for my prime time on CBS, then they can make me wait on ABC! Of course, they had no problem giving us Monday night football for years and pre-empting all those shows.

Oh btw - we got a digital converter for one of our TVs upstairs and now we get fewer DIFFERENT channels and two of others. Yeah, that worked out well! Although the picture is better.

I have an idea. Why don't they run races on PBS? ;)

No HD here either, TRL. I remember my husband was LIVID when they sent the tennis finals to a channel you can only get with HD. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ....... Gimmie, gimmie, gimme ................. You want it, you pay MORE for it. At least we got a lot of our hockey games back. They had moved them to a higher tier we didn't get, but fortunately (for my husband anyway) they moved it back to Vs. I think it should be outlawed that they still play hockey when there's no snow, the leafs are on the trees and it's warm enough for shorts. Just doesn't seem right to me! :)

NASCAR says these rumors are just that, rumors.

They are pissed over the big switch but are confident it won't happen again (I'm still waiting for Disney's apology
tap.gif
).

Overall, they're pleased with ESPN's coverage and consider ABC and ESPN partners.

So am I.:sarcasm:

In short, abc owns us.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's ALL we NEED. Brian France in the White House? Arrrghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
ManrunningAHHHHHH.gif
ANYONE...ANYONE could do better than the incompetent idiot currently in The White House.

I can't wait until January 20th. :beerbang:
