They said that the Pres. of R.J. Renalds is going to be there to. Maybe they are just gonna officially turn it over to Nextel. But that's just a guess. :D

I know ford is gonna unveil the 04 taurus tomorrow, but I dont think this press conference is for that.

Maybe NASCAR could ban tobacco from the sport ? Who knows ?

This "announcement" is a puzzlement! No site except Na$car.com (that I see) even mentiones it.

Actually Ford unveiled the 2004 Taurus & F-150 today at FanFair at the RCA Dome. :)

I bet it will be an announcment of some specail paint schemes for the homestead race saying goodbye to Winston!

that logo has a picture of a blacked out car with a question mark. With alot of champions I think that it will be an announcement that all the past champs will run special paint jobs commerating there championship and WInston at the same time

I've heard it maybe something to do with "Victory Laps" to show respect for the Winston Corporation, and to show gratitude for all their years of supporting NASCAR. Something like RC doing a victory lap in the 3 car. or Allan Kulwicki's dad doing a lap in the 7, I dont know for sure... just letting ya know the stuff i've been told.

I wouldnt be surprised if it's too much debate over nothing. However I'm rather curious as to why they're summoning the recent champs over there. Only God knows what evil schemes they're planning

I think the story is that active past champions will run special schemes at different races near the end of the season. Some of the past champions who are not active now will have show cars at the races.

It seems fitting that tribute should be paid to RJR and Winston for their support of the series for over 30 years. This support likely is as responsible for the growth and success of the series as the drivers themselves and should be honored. Not to mention all the support Winston has given to the regional racing series around the country.

My sources are telling me it will be to annouce.....Larry Foyt as driver of the decade!

and for some unknown reason, they'll declare Jack Sprague as our new Champion

please, please, pretty please, would someone let me know what this is about?!?!?!?!? There must be way too many folks viewing the announcement, because it froze me up and I had to restart my system!!!!!

I really, really want to know what the announcement is!

:bounce:

I am only catching bits and pieces but it'a about the victory lap program....

Thanks, Dee. I was actually able to get the connection on Nascar.com.

What is everyone's opinion on the Victory Lap salute to Winston/RJR? I really think it is good that Nascar is going to show appreciation for a 33 year relationship!

I couldn't see the announcement because I'm stuck in hell (a/k/a work), but I think it's a really cool idea. :)

Nice to see a good announcement, not to mention a little acknowledgement of history, even if it includes thanking a [insert horrified gasp here ;) ] tobacco company! :)

Can't wait until Bristol...definately going to bring my camcorder for the #7 car!!!

I think it's great that they are doin this. I wish they were doin Dale at Talladega though, but Charlotte is a great choice. I only wish he wasn't paired with Jeff. It makes sense though...

Leave it NASCAR to sniff out another marketing opportunity. While I have always been very unhappy with NASCAR's relationship with Big Tobacco, I see the point in honoring a longtime relationship.

I am just extremely glad that NASCAR will finally sever the ties after this year. While I don't have any feelings whatsoever about NEXTEL, at least NEXTEL is not responsible for the deaths of it's users when used as intended.
