NASCAR suspends Hendrick engine tuner for violation of drug policy

John Smeltzer, a Hendrick Motorsports engine tuner working in the Nationwide Series for JR Motorsports, was released by the race team after he was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR for violations of its substance-abuse policy.

NASCAR announced the suspension late Tuesday afternoo. In his career, Smeltzer also had worked on the Cup side with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon.

Smeltzer will have to meet with a substance abuse professional, who will determine the appropriate steps for him to be reinstated through NASCAR's road to recovery program.

"Our organization respects and fully supports NASCAR's policies with regard to banned substances," Hendrick Motorsports said in a statement. "The individual in question is no longer employed by the company."

Hard to believe that a person would risk losing a dream job on purpose. Might just be another allergy medication situation.

Thankfully Nascar provides a way for these guys to get a second chance before they dump them for good.

Nope all natural here....lol.

Ok, but somebody needs to do something:

1. First of all a guy does the stuff for post count endurance.
2. He is already on the internet.......well
3. The end result could end up looking something like the image.

He probably thought only the drivers got tested for drugs. lol imbecile.

This guy is probably done in NASCAR. Next stop, Mcdonalds.

I am gonna wait for facts before I judge. He could be on Adderall...like actually using it via a prescription.

If that's the case he only needed to document the rx prior to the test.

Things happen...idk he may have forgotten.

That's possible but highly unlikely. Folks wanting to do the right thing are usually aware of the ramifications of a postive test.
The Allmendinger case itself should have made that clear.

Who is he hanging around with? Sure hope it wasn't his coworkers. one bad decision can change your whole life.

NASCAR truck series crewman busted on substance-abuse violation

NASCAR has suspended crewman Marshal Faust for substance-abuse policy violations and Red Horse Racing has released Faust from the organization.

Faust will be evaluated by a substance abuse professional, who will determine what he must do to complete NASCAR’s “Road to Recovery” program and be reinstated.

He can still work at a team shop until his reinstatement, but he no longer is with Red Horse Racing, according to a statement from the Camping World Truck Series team.

“Red Horse Racing supports NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy as well as the Road to Recovery Program,” the team said in a statement. “In addition to NASCAR’s testing, Red Horse Racing also has our own quarterly drug testing policy.

“Red Horse Racing has a zero tolerance policy, and Marshal Faust is no longer employed by the team.”

I got flagged for codeine cough syrup. The testers have to contact you first, and if you don't spit up the doc., prescription number, and the pharmacy where you bought it. FAIL. so if you guys are taking someones prescription in the family..which I had done in the past, we all three had bottles of the stuff, lucky my bottle was what was left or I would have been fired. Federal law says they have to contact you with the results if you fail, IF you can clear it, you are OK. He didn't apparently.

Add Todd Parrot to that list.

Very surprised a guy in his position would do something like that. A crew chief in the Cup garage suspended for a substance abuse violation, when's the last time that happened?

I don't know if it has ever happened but that's crazy about Parrot.
