NASCAR Considering Test Ban At Non-Cup Tracks: NASCAR is toying with the idea of limiting Winston Cup testing at tracks that don't have Winston Cup racing but do have other NASCAR events such as a Craftsman Truck or Busch Series race. Gateway, Nashville and Kentucky Speedways would fall under that catergory. NASCAR put a limit of five test dates for Winston Cup cars in 2003 but teams are finding a way around it by running at non-sanctioned tracks. One of the approved test dates have already been used by testing at Daytona the past few weeks.(Insider Racing)(1-31-2003)

I think this would be a good idea. It will once again help cut costs and get the team members back home more. I think they should allow teams to test at some tracks like VIR and other tracks closer to home like (Myrtle Beach) that is not part of the BGN ot truck schedual.

I don't think NASCAR should count the first daytona test against them. Irts not fair to the teams that can not afford to go down there for a test, then they lose that one test, that they might be able to use at tracks closer liek Lowes,Rock, etc.

I don't see what the big deal is if the teams go to these other track and test??

It costs money and time away from family.
They would save tons of money each year to use on other things

But if the team wants to and are willing to spend the money why should Nascar tell them they can't?

Takes money to make money.

Are you also opposed to NFL teams cutting out training camp? To the military not training its soldiers? These things cost money and take time away from family too.

Or maybe these drivers should just show up in untested cars with untested setups and do the best they can. Bet you'd be the first to start whining about the decreased level of competition. But at least they saved some money for those all-important "other things."

I never said they shoudl lose testign all together. i said it was a good idea. Plus NAsCAr has practice for 2 days before the race so they do have time to test the cars out and make sure there is no bugs in them. I also said it would be cool if they could only test at tracks that are close to there home for non-testing credits. The 5 test dates I like and I was happy that they eliminated 2 tests.
