Does anyone know if the rims used on the race cars are mandated or just the best basic design to use?

I ask becasue other than different colors/finishes, they're all alike and it seems to me that a unique rim would help the car stand out from the rest.
 
There is an episode of "How its made" that shows the manufacturing process for Nascar rims,
