Any mod fans out there...specially from the northeast? The Whelen Modified Series and the Whelen Southern Modified Series both ran at Martinsville this past Saturday night and what a race it was. First race of any kind run under the lights at the famed 1/2 mile track. Of course, the yanks with their much bigger budgets smoked the southern boys butts, but around 10th place, there were some great races with the boys from the south. The race was originally supposed to be the race at Myrtle Beach, but was changed early in the year. Of course, all of the drivers loved to race at this great track as it fits well for the mods. Ted Christopher started from the pole and led the majority of the laps and took the checkered flag. The highest finish of a southern boy was 12th I believe with about five of the finishers between 10 and 20 being from the south, or shall I say racing in the southern series. (There are two or three yanks that race in the southern series full time) By the way, they had the biggest stand alone crowd other than a top NASCAR sanctioned race.

Also, coming up in November is the annual North/South Shootout at Concord Motorsports Park, a half mile tri-oval. We went to the first one, but missed last years. That's a two day deal with qualifying races held on Friday and the main events held on Saturday. Lots of different class of cars raced as well.

I love the modifieds...understand Steve Park is returning.....any of these races on tv?

I had heard that the Speed Channel is going to televise the Martinsville race sometime in December, but that's all I know. I don't get that channel anyway so I don't pay much attention to it. Steve's father races down here in the south now and then but didn't show up at Martinsville.
