Interesting article to from Jerry Bonkowski.

A driver is successful if he or she is able to back up boasts by winning races and championships. But in a sport like NASCAR, it's easy to confuse performance and hype.

Here's a look at 10 drivers who are among the most overhyped in the sport. In other words, their performance doesn't justify where they rank in the points standings or where they stand in relation to other, more deserving drivers.

We're not talking about overrated drivers. That's a different subject. Overrated and overhyped are not the same. So please be aware of that when you read this, or choose to respond.

Also, some overhyped drivers in 2012 may not have been overhyped in other seasons when they were more successful.

Last but not least, the drivers we've chosen are not placed in any particular order.
So without further ado, here they are.

Some very odd choices in there. Kasey and Kurt are awesome drivers who don't get all that much hype thrown at them. As far as I know, the Cope twins have NEVER been hyped. Kyle is an awesome driver, but he got over hyped based on his minor league accomplishments.

Right now, the media seems to be cranking up to over hype Brad Keselowski. If he does pull out a miracle and win Phoenix, watch out for falling BS.

Ok, no miracles to win at Richmond next week. :D

First I would nominate the bleacher report as an over hyped slide show.

I disagree on Kahne and the Busch brothers, even if you don't like them their talented. I do think Kyle gets more attention while Hamlin has quietly put together a better Cup career (up to this point).

Nobody has taken the Cope twins seriously to begin with. The writer doesn't like their swimsuits, primping, and their so called soft core habits, as if there is something wrong with that. Dude just needs to smell the roses, I thank God for all the young skinny women that like their bodies, that are willing to share, and try almost anything,

I guess I didn't realize Kahne has missed the Chase as much as he has.

Danica and Dale Jr are the obvious choices here. The Cope twins have never been hyped.

Brad Kesolowski. he is a good driver, but some media putting him up tgere with the likes of Stewart, Gordon, and Johnson. i would also say same for Hamlin and Edwards.

I haven't heard that one, but they are sneaking up to calling him the Chase favorite. He could win it, but there is no way he's even a favorite in my book.

The main one that is over hyped is Jerry Bonkowski . The premise that any of the Nascar drivers is overhyped is stupid . None of them create the media attention that they get and they only get more attention by avoiding reporters questions . If the media are over hyping a driver , why don't they stop.

Huh? Jerry Bonkowski never accused these drivers of over hyping themselves. I think we all know how hype works.

Kinda strange list, still thinking about it.

To claim that Kasey is overhyped because he hasn't performed is ridiculous when you look at the quality of teams he has been on it explains his results.

I guess my point is that everytime Brad opens his mouth the media has to run and print everything he says. Plus whatever he says they treat gold standard. There was no reason why they should have asked him if he felt like he should have had input on who they put in the 22. Do you think anyone ever asked Denny Hamlin or Kyle Busch if they should have say who gets the 20? Or did they ask Edward if he should have input on who Jack puts in the 17? They treat Brad like he is Elite, like he is on Jeff Gordon's status.

Err, who else should they ask? Drivers see what the other drivers are doing on the track better than anyone. Team chemestry also plays into it, and you don't want 2 guys who can't get along.

When was the last time any other driver was asked if they should have input on a teammate? That is my point. It wasn't a question about who would he mesh well with, it was a question about having input in running Penske.

You don't think Denny and Kyle had input when Kez came knocking in 2009? I do. I think every team will speak to their top driver for INPUT. If you look at Penske racing, Brad's finger prints are all over their racing programs. Both of their cup CC's first worked with Brad in the DT car, and that's probably the first time Penske brought in new talent through a NW program. The 22 team owes its very existance to Brad, because he insisted on it before he would sign on.

I've seen articles there where the "writers" didn't even know how many wins the driver they were talking about has. I don't think they do very much research before they post things.

Well I just disagree on the subject, and we have been down this road before so we will leave it at that. ;)

Like most have said I agree with some of the list, but not all. The ones I agree with are Junior, Danica, Montoya, Logano and Kahne to an extent.

I don't think Kahne is over hyped at all. People always talk about him winning races and being a chase contender, but he doesn't get much talk for the actual championship. I think he meets/has met expectations.
