Deterrent System. Yep that's the new name. Updates are being made to the appeals process.

There is now a 6-tier system of penalties.

P1-P6 are the levels. P1, the lowest. They are going to standardize the penalties folks. Let's see how this works.

All of this is happening right now in a press conference.
NASCAR told us last year they were moving toward a deterrent system in which X offense would equal X penalty. Unveiling just that today.

NASCAR's new penalty system will classify offenses from P1 to P6. A P6 would involve engine offenses or fuel additives.

Sounds like a step in the right directions. Maybe now some of the penalties handed out will make sense.

Also, it's not in that post, but he mentioned that a team that wins with a P6 violation will keep the win for statistical purposes, but the win would not count towards Chase qualification.

Breaking news. Due to criticisms of Nascar drivers only making left turns, all 2014 Cup races will be ran in the opposite direction.

Ummm - what qualifies for a P1 or a P6 offense. I'm thinking it is how much they Piss off NASCAR, which is just like the current system.
