Nationwide Series purses to be slashed: NASCAR will cut the purses for the Nationwide Series by 20% next season, a move designed to make hosting the second-tier series a more profitable proposition for race tracks. It's the second consecutive year the purse will be reduced in Nationwide. NASCAR also cut the purses in the premiere Sprint Cup Series before this season. "The health and maintenance of the tracks is essential to the health of the entire industry," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said, "Like in all facets of our business, we have made financial adjustments to ensure the long term strength of the sport."(The Associated Press)(8-22-2010)

I didn't realize the Cup purses had been cut some this year too. If that's the case, let's cut some races from the schedule, cut some practice time at the track, and cut the number of drivers for each race. To have Jeff Green and the likes racing at Bristol is an embarrassment.

How about the price gouging on the rooms? If people didn't have to pay $250 a night for a room at a four day minimum they may go to races a little more often.

I was amazed to still see price gouging around Bristol on Saturday. One house was asking $20 to park cars there and it was over 1/2-mile from the track. Another place was selling ice for $3 for a little over a large cup. I only spent $5 to park and didn't spend another dime on anything else.

Where did you find the $5 parking? We paid $30 for Wednesday through Sunday at Gentry's on White top.

It had been four years since I had been to Bristol. The last time we were back to our room in one hour. It took three hours to get to our rooms this year.

It's too bad they don't do what is done on the other side of the state (Virginia).

Richmond has a slight price increase for rooms over the normal. I think this was agreed upon several years ago and it is a pleasure to go there for a race.

This will be the end of the smaller NW teams barely surviving.

For grins and giggles check out the prices the hotel/motels charge during speedweeks at Daytona compared to normal, $100 rooms go for $300 and up.

There's plenty of free parking around the area that shuttle you to/from the track. I've been going there for years and never paid a dime to park. Now I camp and it's $99 for the entire week. Ice is extra. :D

I work both Daytona races and I stay in Lake Mary. Under $100 a night at a good place and less than an hour (about 40 miles) from the speedway if you leave before the rush.

I won't pay those rip-off prices and neither will my company. Fuel is cheaper.

When is 'before the rush'? Does that mean before the checkered flag?

I can't believe the number of fans that get up and leave the event before it's over. 100 laps to go, 50 laps, 20, 10, people heading out of the grandstands. I don't understand how people can spend so much money only to leave before it's over. Relax, go back to the car/truck/rv & cook up a little food and watch everyone battle for positions getting out of the parking lot. Heck, sometimes that can be as entertaining as the race itself. :beerbang:

IF memory serves several members of the france family are in the top 500 for personal wealth. Maybe brain and others could take a 20% pay cut too?

I was talking about the rush to get TO the speedway from the motel.

As for those leaving the race before the end............... I used to see that a lot when Earnhardt Sr. would crash out or have a disabled car running in the back.
Seems like half the speedway would leave as if no one else was racing.

I misunderstood then.

As far as leaving before the end, I see it at every race I go to. It doesn't matter what drivers are out of the race. Most just seem to get up and go just to beat the traffic. I used to go to Dover with some friends a while back. Every year, the same routine with them. We'd get to the race late to avoid the traffic and we'd leave early to do the same. They were my ride, I didn't have a choice. I think there are a bunch out there just like that. And, it's not just NASCAR. I see the same thing @ all professional sporting events.

Back on topic..... I'd guess that the 20% cut will affect many teams possibly to the point where it no longer pays to compete.

Dover traffic is awful. I used to leave at 4am to get to the track. By 6am, traffic is already dreadful on North Dupont Avenue.

Dover offers one of the best Park & Ride services that I've seen. We stay @ the Delaware State Fairgrounds about 20 minutes south of the track. We leave our campsite around 11:45AM and ride north to the Blue Hen Corporate Center. $20 for a carload to park and worth every penny! We take the shuttle for about a 10 minute ride and get dropped off across the road from turn four and Miles the Monster. We're usually in our seats as they are parading the drivers around the track during the pre-race ceremonies. After the race it's about a 30 minute wait for the shuttle and it's back to our vehicle. It is sweet. We are back to our campsite a little over an hour after the race. Most are still sitting in the parking lot. I'm at the casino & horse track @ the fairgrounds. If you are coming from the south or west, that's the best way in or out. They also offer the same service from the north although I've never used it. We've been using the shuttle service for 7 or 8 years now. Dover does it right. Now, if they'd just put that damn spring race after the 600 again, everything would be perfect.

I could live with Dover having only one race. That track is hit or miss, the races are either really great or downright awful.

They need to remove the grandstands there and make it standing only so the fans won't fall asleep during the races there.

Not price gouging my friend, that's capitalism. If people are willing to pay for those services at that price, more power to the vendors and the patrons.

I guess you'd defend the oil companies if they, for no reason, jacked gas prices up to $7/gal. as well, wouldn't you?

Supply and demand.

NASCAR needs to help the teams cut expenses and limit the cup drivers in the series.

Just a random thought, but why couldn't we run the nationwide, and cup just like the the DP, and GT class in Rolex? And the trucks could run the day, or night before. That would definately take care of a regular stinking up a nationwide show, and the nationwide would still get the audience, and exposure on TV. You could have a 40-45 car field, half from each respective series. You'd have quality rides, with very few start and parks.Just a thought.

So, if purses are being cut, does that mean Danica will get an Aigner instead of a Doony Burke?

They should cut the Cup & Busch schedules back down to 30 events & reduce the fields by three drivers to 40...
