NASCAR TV contract negotiations will be interesting once this channel re-launches.

FOX has already said they're not willing to pay as much for the races and will likely move some, if not many, of the races to SPEED. TNT will not be back, you can count on that. And there's no way ESPN lets NASCAR go, again.

Oh, and "NHRA on NBC Sports Network" would sound pretty awesome! To my knowledge, NHRA has not re-upped with ESPN.

I'd love to see NASCAR on Versus, NBC Sports, or whatever they call it. They'd probably just use the TNT guys (Bill Weber, Wally D., etc) and they'd be fine, just like they did with the first TV contract.

Goodness that would give people nightmares. Wally I can handle but the rest suck.

I never appreciated Bill Weber until they put Adam Alexander in the booth. That guy makes me enjoy Bill Weber and Marty Reid

I think if they come in, they're gonna pick up FOX's half though. NBC's desperate to make the new NBC Sports brand work, and I think they're willing to outspend FOX to get Daytona. FOX won't give up the MLB and ESPN won't let NASCAR get away from them again.

Andy, do you know when the ESPN--NHRA contract is up for renewal?

I don't know. I thought it was a year by year thing. The NHRA contract is different from NASCAR and IndyCar, they actually buy airtime on ESPN2. I could see NHRA giving NBC Sports Network a look. I think NHL had to buy airtime on ESPN whereas NBC paid them and VERSUS offered them free airtime.

NBC Sports Network has historically been friendly to auto racing. They've had USAR, IndyCar, ADRL, Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series and a few other motorsports events. They also air the DAKAR Rally.

But to the original point, I'm sure NHRA will give NBC Sports Network a look. They're getting a raw deal at ESPN. 7pm and 10pm on a Sunday night on ESPN2 isn't exactly a great timeslot.

Nevermind, I just found it. It used to be a year by year deal but in 2011, NHRA signed a five year deal to have the races on ESPN2 and live online at WatchESPN... which includes ESPN2 airing the granddaddy of them all (US Nationals) live.

I thought NHRA had just signed a multi year deal, but I couldn't remember for how long. I know a lot of the fans were complaining about the time slots. Thank's for the info.

ESPN's NHRA coverage is bad. They should send Paul Page back to IndyCar (or what's left of IndyCar) and put Lewis Bloom in the booth. And, for the love of god, keep the microphone AWAY from John Force.

I have always thought Paul Page was way better in IndyCar, and John does get a little amped up.:)

They use John to keep viewers tuned in during PS and PSB. The sad thing is when 75% of the stands up and leave after nitro....nobody cares about PS/PSB anymore. Hell, I thought PST was neat before it was nixed...Made for a hell of a lot of bracket trucks though!

Pro Stock and Pro Mod are the most entertaining classes.

I know they already got people riled up on the walleye and bass fishing forums i hang out in. An article came out with a quote from a tv exec saying the gun and rod people are a demo graphic they dont care if they loose because we are all low income poor old men that can find our shows somewhere else. Last I checked my fishing groups included alot of young race fans including myself...Turned out the dude wasnt working for NBC but a consultation group but still its got people riled up in NBC's direction.

The article has been nuked "go figure" since then so i cant even give you guys a link to check out.

NBC needs identity. Going from gun shows to hockey isn't the same as TNN going from gun shows to NASCAR back in the day. VERSUS was a joke because of this.

Dont forget Versus roots is in the Rod and Gun world. Before Versus it was the Outdoor Life Network (OLN). We are what built that network into something the jocks wanted to and are taking over.

But ashes to ashes still got Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel and Pursuit Channel I say let em have it.

I just hope the PBR lands on a station that I get.

Bill Weber? Are you serious? There's a reason that he's now pulling rabbits out of his hat rather than gracing us with his presence on NASCAR, or for that matter any other broadcasts. He was horrible. That was complete insanity that he had ever replaced Allen Bestwick in the broadcast booth. The best thing that Weber ever did was make his job disappear.

Bestwick was much better in 2011 than he was in his previous turn as the play-by-play guy. The Jerry Punch experiment was not a success. As for Webber, Bestwick, Reid, Punch and/or Alexander - none of them hold a candle to Bob Jenkins!
